About the Role
We are recruiting for two Accountant positions within the Finance Service of Fife Council, split across two core areas:
- Financial Operations
- Manages corporate finance processes (e.g., annual accounts, treasury, capital planning, budgeting).
- Business Partnering Teams
- Supports Directorates to ensure financial oversight and operational transformation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert accountancy support through one of four COEs (Centres of Excellence).
- Ensure compliance with statutory financial duties for Fife Council.
- Collaborate with Directorates to:
- Deliver financial management and business transformation.
- Produce accurate, timely, and insightful financial insights and reports.
- Advise on strategic/operational decisions via high-quality financial analysis.
- Champion process improvements, adoption of new technologies, and business performance enhancements.
- Commit to excellence and accountability in financial governance.

Person Specification
You must hold qualified membership of a CCAB Accounting Body. Additional experiences required include:
- Provision of high-quality financial reporting to non-financial managers.
- Staff supervision and management experience.
- Public sector experience (preferred) in a similar role.
- Proficiency in:
- Financial systems.
- Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Knowledge & Attributes
- Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
- Champion change, including technology adoption.
- Technical accounting skills, strong analytical rigour, and a commitment to accuracy and transparency.
- Exceptional communication, teamwork, time-management, and organisational skills.
- Focus on excellent customer service and building collaborative relationships.
