As an apprentice at Jackson Stapleton Accountants, you will receive mentoring and will learn from our highly trained team. You will complete accredited learning, including an AAT accounts qualification and will gain experience from a broad range of jobs within our company, including accounting, VAT, and tax.
Wage
- £15,080 a year
- Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)
- Wage will raise as you progress in years 2 and 3.
- Year 1 - £15,080 - £16,080
- Year 2 - £18,000 - £23,000
- Year 3 - £24,000

- Standard hours would be Monday to Friday. 09.00 – 17.00.
- 32 hours 30 minutes a week

What You'll Do at Work
We are looking for a proactive individual to join our Accounts team. As our new apprentice you’ll complete a structured programme of learning, starting with a Level 2 Apprenticeship and Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting, with opportunities to progress through Level 3, Level 4, and to eventually gain an ACCA Accountancy qualification, after gaining 3 years of work experience.
If you have already completed a Level 2 AAT programme, there is the potential to begin your apprenticeship at Level 3.
Comprehensive training and support will be provided to help you achieve the apprenticeship standard while building your confidence and helping you develop your career within a well-established and supportive company.
With training and support you will learn to complete the following duties:
- Assisting with all aspects of accounts preparation.
- Bookkeeping transactions using different software platforms.
- Produce, run and submit VAT returns.
- Processing payroll.
- Accurately entering accounting data and collecting and storing client records effectively.
- Reconciliation of client bank accounts, credit card accounts, sales and purchase ledgers.
- Dealing with HMRC queries and authorisations.
- General office administration, including filing and scanning.
- Assisting clients with queries, over the telephone and via email.
- Learning from colleagues and attending college training sessions to complete AAT qualifications.
- All other associated duties as required.

What You'll Learn
Course Contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
Training Schedule
This apprenticeship includes an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting. You will attend remote online training sessions once each week (within term-time) and will also be fully supported by a Vocational Trainer, who will visit you within the workplace every 3-4 weeks.
Additional training information:
- As part of the apprenticeship, you will complete an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting, build an extensive portfolio of your practical work and take part in a bespoke programme of technical, practical and vocational learning.
- There is a structured progression plan in place for your learning and development:
- Level 2 AAT Certificate in Accounting – Bookkeeping transactions, bookkeeping controls, elements of costing, using accounts software, working effectively in finance.
- Level 3 AAT Diploma in Accounting – Advanced bookkeeping, final accounts preparation, management accounting, costing, indirect tax, ethics for accountants, spreadsheets for accounting.
- Level 4 AAT Diploma in Professional Accounting – Management of accounting, budgeting, decisions and control, financial statements of limited companies, accounting systems and controls.
- AACA Qualification – The AACA qualification requires 3 years of relevant work experience and consists of 13 exams. It takes 3-4 years on average for someone to gain this qualification. It includes 3 levels split into modules which are knowledge, professional and skills.
