Location: Lancing, Sussex (Sea Lanes — a growing three-site business)
Salary: £30,000–£32,000 FTE, depending on experience
Hours: Full-time (part-time / flexible hours negotiable)
Reports To: Financial Controller

Sea Lanes is growing fast — three sites and counting — and our finance team needs a sharp, organised Accounts Assistant to help keep everything running smoothly. From supplier payments to daily reconciliations, you’ll be right at the heart of the numbers that keep Sea Lanes moving from strength to strength.

What Makes Your Day Amazing
Like all great roles, no two days are quite the same! You can expect your time with us to be varied and hands-on as you:
Keep Things Moving
- Process and enter supplier invoices accurately and promptly.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies; maintain supplier account records.
- Prepare and execute payment runs (BACS/CHAPS) and manage payment authorisations.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
- Reconcile point-of-sale (POS) / revenue receipts to accounting records and daily takings.
Support the Bigger Picture
- Create and raise recharge / intercompany invoices and follow up on recoveries.
- Assist with month-end routines and ad-hoc finance queries.
- Support the Financial Controller with payroll processing (e.g. collating timesheets, payroll journals) and with preparing VAT returns.
- Process and reconcile staff expense claims, checking receipts and authorisations before payment.

Sharpen Our Systems
- Maintain filing and supporting documentation for audits and internal controls.
- Liaise with operations and external suppliers on invoice/payment issues.
- Spot opportunities for automation, help implement new finance tools, and contribute to business transformation projects.

About You…
More than anything, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in getting the details right and wants to grow with a fast-moving business:
Your Experience Speaks
- 2–3+ years’ proven experience in accounts / accounts payable / bookkeeping, including supplier reconciliations, payment runs and bank reconciliations.
- Good Excel skills, with strong numeracy, attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Experience assisting with payroll processing, VAT returns or staff expense administration is desirable.
Your Skills Shine
- Experience with Xero (our core accounting system) is essential; familiarity with QuickBooks, Sage or similar is a plus.
- Comfortable embracing new technology and change, with an interest in automation and digital tools.
- Clear communication and the ability to deal professionally with suppliers and internal teams.

Qualifications
Preferred:
- AAT Level 2–3 (Accounting Technician) or equivalent bookkeeping qualification, or part-qualified ACCA.
Minimum:
- GCSEs (including Maths and English) or equivalent; candidates with relevant experience but no formal qualifications will be considered.
Desirable:
- Experience with POS systems or retail revenue reconciliation; bookkeeping certification or progression towards AAT Level 3/4.
