Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant
Location: Christchurch, Dorset (near Bournemouth)
Vardey Recruitment is recruiting an Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant to join our client’s finance team, offering an excellent career development opportunity in a supportive and welcoming environment.
About the Role
Following an internal promotion, this Accounts Assistant role provides a chance to develop your accounting skills while working with a strong finance team. You will play a critical role in:
- Day-to-day banking operations
- Reconciliations
- Expense processing
- Balance sheet analysis
- And more!
Ideal for candidates with double-entry bookkeeping knowledge, whether studying for or qualified in AAT, or an accountancy graduate with relevant work experience. Strong Excel skills and an eye for detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities
** Banking & Reconciliations**
- Daily posting of bank receipts
- Daily posting and reconciliation of card payments
- Investigation and resolution of bank account discrepancies
- Weekly and monthly bank reconciliations
- Providing cash flow and banking data to management
- Holiday cover and support for bank reconciliations

Expenses & Journals
- Posting of credit card and miscellaneous expenses
- Ensuring accurate irrecoverable VAT treatment
- Preparing and posting general ledger journals
- Liaising with internal teams to verify banking entries
Additional Duties
- Balance sheet analysis
- Assisting Purchase Ledger team on referral basis
- Ad-hoc holiday relief in finance and ledger operations
- Project and process improvement initiatives
Requirements & Ideal Candidate
- Qualification/Experience:
- Studying for, or AAT qualified (preferred)
- Accountancy graduate with finance experience (also suitable)
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of accounting principles & double-entry bookkeeping
- Experience with bank reconciliations, expenses, and AP/AR processes
- Proficient in Excel and general IT systems
- Personality & Work Style:
- Highly organised with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
