Vacancy Title: Accounts Assistant / Purchase Ledger Clerk (Permanent, Full Time) Location: Doncaster Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and adaptable Accounts Assistant / Purchase Ledger Clerk to join our busy finance and operations team.
This role offers a varied, hands-on experience blending purchase ledger responsibilities with administrative and operational support across the business. Successful candidates will:
- Maintain accurate financial records
- Support reporting processes
- Provide critical operational insights to senior management
Key Responsibilities
Purchase Ledger & Finance Duties
- Invoice processing & reconciliations
- Checking and processing invoices from suppliers, including Sullivans, Alba, Dawson, BNP, leasing providers, and utilities.
- Reconciling supplier accounts (e.g., Alba/Omega, Sullivans, Noble Feed).
- Ensuring accurate supplier statement alignment against payments.
- Payment & statement management
- Preparing and verifying payment runs.
- Requesting and resolving supplier discrepancies.
- Monthly journal & close support
- Managing month-end financial journals.
- Rebate & remittance handling
- Tracking rebates (Noble, PD Hook) and ensuring accurate remittances.
- Operational stock management
- Supporting stock takes and monitoring sundry stock records.

Operational & Reporting Support
- KPI & management reporting
- Generating daily KPI dashboards.
- Preparing weekly management reports.
- Live operational data tracking
- Updating live crop and bid plans, bird and farmer records.
- Verifying tickets against real-time operational data.
- End-of-crop reporting
- Finalising crop results and updating farmer performance metrics.
- Food spreadsheets & reporting
- Supporting financial & strategic spreadsheets.
- Assisting with price lists and feed plan updates.
Administrative Duties
- Email & correspondence management
- Administering shared inboxes, prioritising emails, and facilitating senior staff communications.
- Post & records organisation
- Handling mail (collection, distribution, and archiving).
- Maintaining physical and digital filing systems.
- General office support
- Conducting post office runs, ordering supplies, and hosting visitor refreshments.
- Liaising with internal teams and external suppliers.

Additional Responsibilities
- Payroll cover on an as-needed basis.
- Ad hoc rebilling & invoice adjustments.
- Monitoring key supplier and operational inboxes.
- Providing wider operational and administrative support.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated experience in an Accounts Assistant / Purchase Ledger Clerk role.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial work.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while managing a varied workload.
- Proficient in Excel and accounting software.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Proactive, flexible attitude, and willingness to support broader business needs.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- AAT or ACCA qualification (or part-time study).
- Fast-paced operational or agricultural work experience.
- KPI reporting and reconciliation expertise.
