Accounts Assistant/Associate – Saffery LLP (Inverness)
About the Role
We are seeking an ICAS/ACCA/AAT/ACA part-qualified Accounts Assistant/Associate with previous experience, or someone crossing over from other professional disciplines, to contribute to a thriving accounts team specialising in diverse client bases.
Our clients include partnerships, trusts, sole traders and companies across a wide spectrum, such as:
- Landed estates
- Agriculture
- Renewables and natural capital
- Property development and rental
- Consultancy services
The role offers a mix of compliance, advisory and project work, moving beyond typical year-end responsibilities.
A permanent position, ideal for a part-qualified professional seeking to develop further their expertise in accounts, compliance, and trusts while growing advisory, client management, and supervisory skills.
Responsibilities
Key duties include (but are not limited to):
- Preparation of year-end financial statements
- Assisting with VAT compliance and bookkeeping queries (including setting up and supporting accounting systems such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Key Prime, and Farmplan)
- Mentoring and training office team members
- Cross-departmental communication to enhance service delivery
- Building and maintaining client relationships
The role requires attention to detail, time management, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements & Skills
Qualifications
- ICAS/ACCA/AAT/ACA part-qualification preferred, with relevant practical experience to complement skills. (Alternative: Hands-on experience in accounts or transferable professional skills may be considered.)
Essential Skills
- Strong numeracy, analytical skills, with the aptitude to learn quickly.
- Proficiency in Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of accounting software, including:
- Xero, QuickBooks, Sage (Integr potassium)
- KeyPrime, FarmPlan (CCH AP)
- Self-motivated, proactive approach with:
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
- Flexibility and ease under pressure

Working Arrangement
- 35-hour workweek with a flexible hybrid model
- Remote working: up to 3 days per week (Core office hours: 10:00–16:00)
