Accounts Payable Team Leader

Accounts Payable Team Leader

As the Accounts Payable Team Leader, you will be responsible for the direct supervision, mentorship, and day-to-day guidance of the Accounts Payable team. This role is crucial in ensuring the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of invoices and payments, with a key objective of paying suppliers on time to uphold commitments and maintain positive relationships. You will foster a collaborative team environment, drive process improvements, and adapt to ongoing changes to maintain the team's effectiveness and operational stability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily mentorship and coaching

    • Conduct regular 1-to-1s to support the professional growth of your team
  • Oversee the end-to-end AP process

    • From invoice receipt to payment, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies
  • Identify and implement efficiencies

    • Manage robotic automation processes, update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and facilitate new system adoption
  • Track KPIs and manage workload distribution

    • Oversee offshore team volumes to consistently meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Act as primary escalation point

    • Resolve complex queries and advocate for team needs to the Operations Manager

  • Handle payment runs
    • Oversee statement reconciliations, and contribute to month-end and year-end closing activities

Requirements

  • Experience guiding a team through high-pressure periods

    • Maintaining a supportive, "people-first" culture
  • Solid understanding of AP regulations (including HMRC, VAT, and CIS)

    • Handling high volumes of financial data
  • Conflict resolution skills and practical problem-solving

    • Ability to de-escalate invoice query disputes
  • Commitment to accuracy and data integrity

    • Ensuring accuracy across all reporting and payment functions
  • Stakeholder and supplier relationship management

    • Translating complex financial information for diverse audiences
  • Proactive, deadline-driven mindset

    • Taking ownership of team output and meeting strict deadlines
