Accounts Senior

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Accounts Senior to join a well-established organisation based in Essex. This role sits within the Accountancy sector and offers the chance to work with a varied client portfolio while developing your technical skills within a supportive and progressive environment.

The Role

This Accounts Senior position is suited to someone who enjoys a broad range of client work and wants to take ownership of accounts preparation, compliance assignments, and client relationships. You will play an important role in delivering high-quality work across a diverse portfolio while working closely with senior team members and supporting the wider team in Essex. The successful candidate will join a respected Accountancy environment where there are opportunities to develop, take on additional responsibility, and build a long-term career.

What you'll be doing

  • Preparing statutory accounts for a variety of entities including limited companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, charities, and group structures
  • Completing and reviewing VAT returns, bookkeeping assignments, and management accounts
  • Ensuring assignments are delivered accurately, efficiently, and within agreed deadlines
  • Reviewing work, resolving queries, and producing high-quality final files
  • Supporting outsourced accounting processes, including reviewing completed work and handling queries
  • Supervising junior team members, providing guidance, feedback, and support to maintain high standards
  • Keeping managers and senior stakeholders updated on client matters, risks, and opportunities
  • Working closely with internal departments to resolve technical queries
  • Maintaining accurate records, including time recording and workflow updates
  • Keeping up to date with professional development requirements and technical changes
  • Identifying opportunities to enhance client services and strengthen relationships

What we're looking for

  • Previous experience working within a client-facing accounts role
  • AAT qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE)
  • Strong experience preparing accounts for a range of business types
  • Good understanding of VAT, bookkeeping, and management accounts processes
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with clients and colleagues
  • Good IT skills and the ability to adapt to different systems and processes
  • Experience supervising or supporting junior colleagues would be advantageous
  • A full UK driving licence would be beneficial due to occasional client visits
