Role Overview
Working alongside experienced finance professionals, you'll develop practical accounting skills, gain exposure to financial operations and play a role in supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function. As knowledge and confidence grow, you'll take on increasing levels of responsibility and become an integral member of our team.
Responsibilities
As an Accounts/Finance Apprentice, you will support the Finance Manager and wider finance team by:
- Processing sales invoices and purchase invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Assisting with invoice processing and other finance administration as required.
- Maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring data is entered correctly.
- Processing documentation and generating correspondence in response to queries.
- Providing administrative support to the finance team and wider business.
- Responding professionally to enquiries from clients, colleagues and third-party service providers.
- Liaising with colleagues across technical and operational teams.
- Using finance and case management software to maintain records and process transactions.
- Supporting compliance with Thomas Miller policies, including sanctions and payment controls.
- Assisting with financial reporting and other finance activities as your experience develops.
- Providing cover for finance team members during periods of annual leave or absence.
- Contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Course Contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications
- GCSE in:
- English (grade 3)
- Maths (grade 3)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Personal Attributes
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, eager to learn and keen to build a career in finance. You should have:
- A genuine interest in finance and accounting.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- The ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, or a willingness to develop these skills.
- The ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines.
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality, governance and financial controls.
- An inquisitive mindset and willingness to embrace new challenges as the business evolves.
- An understanding of exchange rate calculations would be advantageous but is not essential, as training will be provided.
