Accredited Clinical Coder – Acute Hospital NHS Role
We are rapidly expanding and currently seeking an Accredited Clinical Coder to join our growing and innovative team at an acute hospital within the NHS. This is an exciting new post in our cohesive and established Clinical Coding team. We are seeking a confident and passionate individual who thrives on change and wants to make a significant difference to patient outcomes and staff experience.
Payment & Working Arrangements
- Recruitment and Retention Premia (RRP) payment payable
- Flexible hybrid and remote working opportunities available
- RRP payment totalling approx. £5,000* (payable in instalments over 2 years, subject to slight variation based on % of salary applied)
Notion of variable payment outlined above, but exact value would be confirmed during discussions.
UKVI Sponsorship
This role may be available for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Visa route, subject to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) criteria on a case-by-case basis.
About the Clinical Coding Team
The Clinical Coding Team plays a critical role in extracting and translating inpatient information using:
- ICD-10 and OPCS-4 Coding Classifications, adhering to national coding standards
- Translates clinical information into standardised classification systems essential for:
- Effective management of the Trust National Tariff Payment System (impacting trust income)
- Clinical audits, governance, and research purposes

Key Responsibilities
As an Accredited Clinical Coder, your role will involve:
- Making complex judgements on clinical information through:
- Interpreting electronic and paper-based health records
- Comparing clinical data from multiple sources
- Ensuring high accuracy and completeness in clinical coding for local and national reporting
- Assisting with independency for essential mandatory data, including financial and non-financial submissions
- Expected to be an Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) through completion of the National Clinical Coding Qualification
Professional Interactions & Collaboration
- Interfacing regularly with clinicians, operational staff, and team members
- Personal accountability for own workload management
- Assisting in:
- Training
- Mentoring trainee coders and less experienced team members
- Critical role in maintaining data integrity whilst fostering a positive team environment
