Job Overview
UHS Pharmacy LTD is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with them as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
About the Role
The Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) will be responsible for:
- Accurately checking outpatient prescriptions
- Counselling patients on the safe and effective use of medicines
- Ensuring adherence to standard labelling requirements and SOPs
- Maintaining accurate stock levels
- Championing safe dispensing practices
- Providing advice to customers as required
Working with UHS Pharmacy LTD
UHS Pharmacy LTD (UPL) is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, providing pharmacy services for:
- hospital staff
- outpatients
- visitors
Located in the main foyer of the hospital, the pharmacy offers:
- A wide range of over-the-counter medicines and healthcare products

Working Hours
The pharmacy operates:
- Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 18:00
- Saturday: 09:00 – 13:00
- Sunday: 10:00 – 16:00
Detailed Responsibilities
To deliver the pharmacy’s core service of dispensing outpatient prescriptions, the ACPT will be expected to:
- Maintain a high standard of service, in line with legislation and recognised good practice.
- Strictly adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and enforce them when necessary.
- Perform day-to-day technical duties, including:
- Checking outpatient prescriptions for accuracy
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards
- Providing advice to patients and healthcare professionals.
- Support stock management, including:
- Rotating stock
- Ensuring security in compliance with legislation
- Maintaining inventory levels.
- Keep the dispensary and shop environment clean, tidy, and efficient.
- Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and facilitate training for other staff where applicable.
- Supervise dispensary and shop staff.

Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Must hold an appropriate ACPT qualification.
- Must be registered as an ACPT with the General Pharmaceutical Council of Great Britain.
- Must demonstrate:
- Excellent customer care experience in a community or hospital pharmacy setting.
- Ability to cope with change and manage challenging situations.
- Experience working in a patient-focused environment.
- Competence in using IT equipment.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Further relevant post-registration qualifications (advantageous).
- Experience in both community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy environments.
- Familiarity with robotic dispensing systems.
- Awareness of homecare medicines arrangements (helpful but not compulsory).
