Job Overview
UHS Pharmacy LTD is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
Main Duties of the Job
- Accurately check outpatient prescriptions
- Counsel patients on the safe and effective use of medicines
- Ensure adherence to standard labelling requirements and SOPs
- Maintain accurate stock levels
- Champion safe dispensing practices
- Provide advice to customers when required
Working for the Organisation
UPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, delivering pharmacy services for:
- Hospital staff
- Outpatients
- Visitors
The pharmacy is conveniently located in the hospital foyer, offering:
- A wide range of over-the-counter medicines and healthcare products
Operating Hours
- Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 18:00
- Saturday: 09:00 – 13:00
- Sunday: 10:00 – 16:00

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Work with UPL to provide core outpatient prescription dispensing services
- Maintain a high standard of service in compliance with legislation and good practice
- Adhere to and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Perform daily technical duties, including:
- Checking accuracy of outpatient prescriptions
- Following relevant standards
- Providing advice to patients and healthcare professionals
- Help maintain medicine stock levels in line with legislation and good practice (rotation and security)
- Ensure the dispensary is clean, tidy, and operates efficiently
- Complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Supervise dispensary and shop staff when required

Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Essential Criteria
- An appropriate ACPT qualification
- Registration as an ACPT with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Proven ability to deliver excellent customer care in a community or hospital pharmacy
- Evidence of adaptability and resilience to cope with change
- Experience in patient-focused environments
- Competency in the use of IT equipment
Desirable Criteria
- Additional post-registration qualifications
- Experience in both community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy
- Exposure to robotic dispensing systems
- Knowledge of homecare medicines arrangements
