Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) – Job Description

Job Overview

UHS Pharmacy LTD is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us as an Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).

Main Duties of the Job

  • Accurately check outpatient prescriptions
  • Counsel patients on the safe and effective use of medicines
  • Ensure adherence to standard labelling requirements and SOPs
  • Maintain accurate stock levels
  • Champion safe dispensing practices
  • Provide advice to customers when required

Working for the Organisation

UPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, delivering pharmacy services for:

  • Hospital staff
  • Outpatients
  • Visitors

The pharmacy is conveniently located in the hospital foyer, offering:

  • A wide range of over-the-counter medicines and healthcare products

Operating Hours

  • Monday – Friday: 09:00 – 18:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 – 13:00
  • Sunday: 10:00 – 16:00

Detailed Job Description and Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with UPL to provide core outpatient prescription dispensing services
  • Maintain a high standard of service in compliance with legislation and good practice
  • Adhere to and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Perform daily technical duties, including:
    • Checking accuracy of outpatient prescriptions
    • Following relevant standards
    • Providing advice to patients and healthcare professionals
  • Help maintain medicine stock levels in line with legislation and good practice (rotation and security)
  • Ensure the dispensary is clean, tidy, and operates efficiently
  • Complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Supervise dispensary and shop staff when required

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential Criteria

  • An appropriate ACPT qualification
  • Registration as an ACPT with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Proven ability to deliver excellent customer care in a community or hospital pharmacy
  • Evidence of adaptability and resilience to cope with change
  • Experience in patient-focused environments
  • Competency in the use of IT equipment

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional post-registration qualifications
  • Experience in both community pharmacy and hospital pharmacy
  • Exposure to robotic dispensing systems
  • Knowledge of homecare medicines arrangements
