Acoustic Logging Technician
Purpose and scope of the role
The Acoustic Logging Technician will:
- Deploy, collect, and process acoustic logging equipment across South East Water’s distribution network.
- Generate actionable leak points for field crews.
- Work as a permanent, full-time (40-hour) role, supporting leakage detection contracts covering Basingstoke and surrounding zones.
- Typically leave deployments in situ overnight and retrieve them the following morning.
Responsibilities
Your role includes:
- Analysing district metered areas (DMAs) and control zones.
- Identifying suitable assets for logger placement.
- Interpreting plans and schematics.
- Completing survey and time recordings.
- Liaising with leakage technicians and the contract management team.
- Deploying, recovering, and performing basic analysis on loggers to reduce unreported losses.

Core Capabilities Required
Technical Deployment & Equipment Care
- Handle and install/recover acoustic loggers with confidence.
- Conduct routine equipment checks and basic fault diagnosis.
- Complete survey forms and asset records meticulously.
Network Analysis & Mapping
- Read and interpret:
- Pipeline/district layouts.
- DMA/control zone schematics.
- Locate optimal sites for deployment.
- Translate results into points of interest.
Health, Safety, & Manual Handling
- Strong safety awareness, including:
- Manual handling (cover-lifting, low-light work).
- Adherence to company H&S protocols.
- All-weather work capabilities.
Communication & Reporting
- Clear verbal/written reports on findings.
- Update teams (& clients) accurately.
- Time-tracking & paperwork to strict standards.
Route Planning & Time Management
- Optimise daily coverage across the Basingstoke region for an efficient overnight deployment schedule.
- Work independently to meet targets.

Qualifications & Training
Required:
- Full UK driving licence.
- Basic numeracy/literacy skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors and overnight when required.
Provided:
- Full on-the-job training & mentorship.
Desirable:
- Experience within water/leakage sectors or acoustic logging.
- NVQ (equivalent) in utilities/field services.
- CSCS card or safety qualifications.
Work Patterns
- Field-based role in Basingstoke.
- 40-hour contract, typically Monday–Friday.
- Occasional overtime.
