Software Controls Engineer
Actemium Automation Huddersfield (part of VINCI Energies)
Location: Huddersfield Type: Full-time Salary: Competitive + EV Car & Share Scheme + Bonus + Healthcare + Pension + Benefits
About the Role
You will design, develop, and commission control systems for industrial automation projects across manufacturing and process sectors as a hands-on Software Controls Engineer. There are opportunities to progress technically and into project leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and test:

PLC (Mitsubishi and Schneider Electric) control logic
-
Function blocks
-
HMI/SCADA applications (e.g., WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition, or equivalent)

Industrial visualisation solutions
-
Perform FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and on-site support for automated systems.

Integrate industrial drives, motion control, and fieldbus/industrial Ethernet networks.

Work with electrical and mechanical teams to support:
- Panel wiring
- Cable schedules
- Installation checks

Ensure compliance with safety standards, client specifications, and company processes.

Produces clear technical documentation:
- Software revision records
- Configuration backups

Provide technical support to clients and colleagues:
- Training
- Handover documentation

Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant engineering qualification (HNC, HND, degree, or equivalent) or proven practical experience in controls engineering.
- Strong experience programming PLCs and HMIs/SCADA.
- Familiarity with Mitsubishi and Schneider Electric platforms is desirable.
- Competent understanding of:
- Electrical control circuits
- I/O
- Industrial communication protocols
- Experience with:
- Commissioning
- On-site fault-finding
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to client sites as required.
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills:
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports
- Professional interaction with clients
- Organised, proactive, and able to:
- Work independently
- Collaborate as part of a project team
