Job Overview
To consistently facilitate and organise a range of activities as part of the recreation programme for after school, evenings, weekends and school holidays.
To provide interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve the service users’ quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead.
Please note: This vacancy does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker sponsorship, unless you meet the criteria by temporary exemption from current changes to immigration rules put in force on 22/07/2025. “Separate provisions are applied to workers who have been sponsored and held continuously Skilled Worker visa since prior to 04/04/2024."

Main duties of the job
- To provide culturally and age appropriate activities for service users.
- To work as a team member to deliver clinical interventions under supervision and direction, using activities as a treatment medium to support service users to achieve / develop/maintain daily living skills.
- To support young people to engage in social and recreational activities, with an emphasis on providing opportunities for therapeutic engagement.
- To plan, implement and review a range of activities using individual and group work approaches, under the supervision and direction of qualified occupational therapists.
- To support service users to engage in care plans which have been developed in partnership with the individual and that reflect ‘recovery goals’.
- To demonstrate an awareness of and apply OT techniques/activities relevant to the client group. under supervision of the unit OT.
- To assess risk and manage it effectively whilst ensuring maximum ‘risk tolerance that facilitates the individual’s recovery, in line with risk policies and local guidelines.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Clinical
1.1 To provide culturally and age appropriate activities for service users.

1.9 To be aware of and sensitive to the safeguarding needs of children and adults, and knowledgeable both about potential indicators of abuse or neglect and about what to do if they have concerns about a child's or adult's welfare.
1.10 To provide information regarding the delivery of activities to all service users and other professionals within the team.
1.11 To offer regular monitoring of mental state.
1.12 To be aware of community resources in order that a socially inclusive focus towards intervention and discharge planning is maintained.
1.13 To escort service users to various therapeutic / treatment programmes if required as determined by their care plan within their community setting.
1.14 To manage group dynamics and risk when facilitating activity-focused groups with service users.
Communication
2.1 To demonstrate effective communication skills and form positive working relationship, using warmth and empathy that enables service user empowerment.
2.2 To demonstrate skills and resourcefulness in communication when barriers to understanding are present, including utilising interpreting resources.
2.3 To promote the role of the activity coordinator within the service.
2.4 To maintain partnership working with the other clinical service settings, and other statutory and non-statutory providers.
2.5 To attend and contribute to Activity Coordinator / OT specific meetings / team clinical and business meetings.
2.6 To provide feedback, to Activity Coordinator / OT and MDT colleagues, from specialist interest groups and forums.
2.7 To coordinate work with the other Activities Coordinator to ensure a consistent activities programme is delivered throughout the week.
2.8 To work as an effective member of the MDT to provide information related to young people's level of engagement and presentation during therapeutic activities both on the ward and in the community.
Documentation
3.1 To ensure timely, accurate and informative records of clinical contacts are recorded on System 1 which meet all standards, according to Trust policy and CQUIN targets.
3.2 To contribute to the recording of service users intervention plans under the supervision of occupational therapists.
Leadership/Management
4.1 To provide information and resources to other members of staff as appropriate
4.2 To be responsible for the effective use and maintenance of physical resources and supplies
Clinical Governance
5.1 To comply with relevant national policy legislation and guidance.
5.2 To apply Trust wide guidelines/standards of practice.
5.3 To work with the service line / borough frameworks to implement the care quality agenda.
5.4 To assume accountability for own clinical practice.

5.5 To maintain and observe confidentiality of all information relating to service users as detailed in the Confidentiality Policy and Caldicott Principles; and to adhere to CNWL Information Governance Policy.
Service Delivery and Development
6.1 To ensure that all activities delivered comply with the teams identified package of care.
6.2 To safeguard the health, safety and welfare of service users at all times.
6.3 To practice within a personal recovery framework which supports social inclusion and self-management.
6.4 To raise awareness of activities being facilitated within CAMHS to other MDT colleagues.
6.5 To contribute to the development of activities with regard to activity coordinator knowledge and experience.
Research & Development
7.1 To participate in research and audit activities in line with local service priorities and the Trusts OT R&D Strategy.
Personal and Professional Development
8.1 To keep abreast of new developments relating to clinical practice.
8.2 To contribute to activities, which continue to build on a culture of, shared learning and evidence-based practice.
8.3 To undertake activities of Continuous Professional Development including identifying own learning needs, recording learning outcomes
8.4 To participate in local and trust wide Activity Coordinator /OT service activities that promotes personal and professional development.
8.5 To ensure timely booking and attendance of mandatory and statutory training. Failure to do this may preclude further learning and development opportunities.
8.6 To review and reflect on own performance through effective use of supervision, CPD opportunities and annual appraisal; ensuring own learning and development needs are identified.
Staff & Students
9.1 To deliver learning opportunities about the role of the Activity Coordinator to students and staff from other professions.
9.2 To contribute to the induction of students.
Emotional Effort
10.1 To provide care for service users who maybe come distressed or present with challenging behaviour.
10.2 To provide care for young people who may have experienced trauma or distressing life events and utilise professional support networks (i.e. supervision, reflective practice) to manage the potential personal impact of this.
Work Conditions
11.1 To have the ability to work within an environment that may expose individuals to verbal and physical abuse.
Person specification
Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
- English GCSE or equivalent
- NVQ 2 in care / Level 2 Certificate in Mental Health Work in care or agreed equivalent.
- Experience in facilitating groups and individual activities.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- Experience of working within a team.
- Experience of working with a multi-cultural environment.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ 3 in Care / Certificate in Community Mental Health Care or agreed equivalent
- Care Certificate qualification
- Other relevant qualifications relating to therapies, health, exercise and sports science
- First Aid Course.
- Previous experience of working in a CAMHS or mental health setting.
- Voluntary experience.
- Provision of activities in health services.
- Teaching experience
- Experience of working alongside an Occupational Therapist
- Experience of working with individuals that may present with significant distress, resulting in risks to themselves or others
