Actuarial Consultant – Defined Benefit Pensions
About the Role
We are seeking an Actuarial Consultant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a:
- Recently qualified actuary (FIA/FAA)
- Part-qualified actuary with 3–4+ years’ experience working toward full qualification
- Member of an actuarial team transitioning into consulting, with aspirations toward Scheme Actuary or Corporate Actuary roles
- Opportunities for progression through to Partner
Our acting Actuarial Consultant provides expert, pragmatic advice to trustees and employers on complex issues including:
- Asset investment strategies
- De-risking strategies
- Longevity risk management
- Impact of legislative changes
We deliver full-service actuarial consulting, investment consultancy, and specialist standalone projects such as mergers and acquisitions.
Key Responsibilities
Core professional duties
- Calculate and review comprehensive actuarial valuations
- Undertake individual member projections, including:
- Complex calculations
- Standard checks
- Validation of increasingly sophisticated calculations
- Lead calculations for actuarial valuations
- Review draft client reports, advice, and member communications
- Collaborate with Client Account Managers to assess:
- Client objectives
- Organisation requirements

Client engagement
- Attend and actively participate in client meetings
- Manage projects across various client requirements
- Design and manage surveys & statistical analyses
- Quantitative data interpretation
- Probabilistic & risk assessments (e.g. pensions, longevity)
Collaborative & developmental contributions
- Provide technical advisory support to clients & departments
- Client management:
- Allocate and track work
- Meet deadlines
- Work with senior client team members
- Assist in expanding practice areas
- Implement new tools/assets (e.g. Experian reviews)
- Develop procedures & marketing materials
- Mend workflow for new colleagues and support junior training
Requirements
Essential
✔ Defined Benefit (DB) pensions experience (a critical priority) ✔ FIA/FAA qualification (or actively training)
- Partial qualifications + progress toward exams acceptable
Desired skills
- Proficiency in IT systems
- Strong presentation skills (key for client communication)
- Solid grasp of DB pensions fundamentals
