Actuarial Consultant

Joining Our Team

We are seeking an Actuarial Consultant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for:

  • A more recently qualified actuary, or
  • A part-qualified actuary making progress through exams (with 3–4+ years’ experience), or
  • A member of an actuarial team looking to transition into a consulting role, with a view toward becoming a Scheme Actuary or Corporate Actuary.

  • Impact of legislative changes

We deliver a range of support, including:

  • Full-service actuarial consulting
  • Investment consultancy
  • Standalone projects such as mergers and acquisitions

Essential requirement: DB pensions experience is non-negotiable.


Key Responsibilities & Day-to-Day Work

  • Perform complex individual member calculations, then progress to checking increasingly complex calculations
  • Complete the majority of calculations for an actuarial valuation
  • Review draft client reports, advice, and member communications
  • Collaborate with Client Account Managers to assess client objectives and needs
  • Move toward Client Account Manager responsibilities, including:
    • Delegating work, setting deadlines
    • Attending client meetings and representing the team
    • Client-facing technical advice and correspondence
  • Support various client projects and engage with corporate teams across broad topics
  • Project management:
    • Design and manage surveys
    • Analyze and interpret quantitative data using statistical techniques
    • Assess probability/risk in areas like pensions using theoretical/technical principles
  • Develop internal service offerings (e.g., Experian reviews)
  • Create/devise internal tools and procedures to expand practice areas
  • Contribute to practice newsletters and marketing materials
  • Research technical/niche topics and report findings to senior teams
  • Mentoring & quality control:
    • Review work of peers/new graduates
    • Train and develop junior colleagues

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Actuarial qualifications (FIA/FAA) or demonstrable progress on exams towards that stage
  • Proven DB pensions experience or advanced theoretical knowledge
  • Strong IT and presentation skills
