The Vacancy

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Actuarial Public team as an Actuarial Technician Apprentice, which will give you the chance to develop your skills whilst completing the Level 4 Actuarial Technician Qualification through BPP.

This is a permanent role within our firm – but we expect that it will take you approximately 27 months to complete this qualification. Once completed, we expect there will be further opportunities to grow and develop your career across our team.

What will your role look like?

In this role, you will support our Public Sector team in delivering high-quality work to our clients, including administering authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and participating employers.

This is a development-focused role where you will build your technical skills and understanding of actuarial work while working alongside experienced colleagues. You will gain hands-on experience across key areas such as pensions calculations, data analysis and reporting.

Alongside your role, you will complete the Level 4 Actuarial Technician qualification with BPP. This will give you structured learning, recognised qualifications and the opportunity to apply your knowledge in practice.

Though this is a varied role, you will be supported to build your skills and confidence over time by:

  • Learning about the different systems and software we use, while supporting the preparation of actuarial calculations for LGPS funding valuations and accounting work, using specialist software
  • Developing your understanding of the work we do and how our processes operate, and sharing your ideas on how we can continue to improve these
  • Working with data - including checking for accuracy, helping to prepare it for analysis, and supporting colleagues to run actuarial models and understand and communicate the outputs from these
  • Supporting senior colleagues with the preparation of reports, client deliverables and delivering an exceptional client service
  • Building your confidence in checking your own work, with guidance and feedback from your team.
  • Maintaining clear and well-organised records of your work to support good practice and meet internal standards
  • Working with a designated in-house mentor to reflect on your progress, and to support your development alongside your apprenticeship studies
  • Following our firm’s policies and standards, including those relating to information security and data protection.

Skills

You’ll develop most of the necessary skills during your apprenticeship, however if you enjoy and/or have experience of the following, we think you’ll love this opportunity:

  • Enthusiastic about kick-starting your actuarial career within Public Sector Consulting
  • Educated to at least secondary school level, having achieved 3 SQA Highers (or equivalent), including Higher Maths at grade B (or be expecting to achieve these grades within this year’s results)
  • A proactive, self-motivating approach - using your initiative to get tasks done and manage your time effectively
  • Working quickly and accurately, while paying good attention to detail
  • A strong communicator and team player, who is excited to collaborate with colleagues from across the different areas of our firm
  • Keen to support us in delivery of exceptional client service
  • A drive to learn and share knowledge with a focus on continuous learning and improvement
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the capacity to manage multiple and sometimes competing demands.
  • Excited about the opportunity to develop your skills as part of this role, while gaining hands on experience in a fast-paced financial services organisation.
  • Working in a way that is aligned to our four core values of being friendly, partnering, straightforward and confident.
  • A good level of IT skills (in particular the use of MS Office based software like MS Excel and Outlook), or the enthusiasm to learn more about the use of these in a professional setting

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
