Actuarial Technician Apprentice – Public Sector Team
About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Actuarial Public team as an Actuarial Technician Apprentice. This permanent role gives you the chance to:
- Develop your skills while completing the Level 4 Actuarial Technician Qualification through BPP.
- Contribute to high-quality work for clients, including:
- Authorities of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
- Participating employers
- Grow your career and build experiences within our team once the qualification is completed.
The apprenticeship takes approximately 27 months, with further career development opportunities available after completion.
What Will Your Role Involve?
This development-focused role combines hands-on experience with structured learning. You’ll:
Core Responsibilities
- Support the Public Sector team in delivering actuarial services, including LGPS funding valuations and accounting work.
- Learn and apply your knowledge across key areas:
- Pensions calculations
- Data analysis
- Reporting
- Embrace a varied workload, supported by experienced colleagues while working towards:
- Mastering our systems and software for actuarial computations.
- Collaborating on process improvements based on your insights.
- Work with data by:
- Ensuring accuracy and verifying information for actuarial models.
- Assisting colleagues in interpreting and communicating model outputs.
- Prepare reports and client deliverables under the guidance of senior colleagues.
- Focus on continuous improvement through:
- Self-checking work with constructive feedback.
- Maintaining clear, organised records to align with internal standards.
Personal and Professional Growth
- Develop confidence through shadowing, mentorship, and feedback.

- Learn alongside those already within the organisation, ensuring consistent development support.

Skills and Qualifications Required
Academic Requirements
- Secondary school qualification equivalent to 3 SQA Highers (or equivalent), including:
- Higher Maths at grade B (or expected to achieve these grades in this year’s results).
Note: Candidates without met academic requirements may still be considered if they demonstrate essential skills. BPP Learning Provider will assess suitability on a case-by-case basis.

- Utilising advanced MS Office software (Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrating ambitious interest to advance proficiency in professional tools.
