Actuary - Defined Benefit Calculations Specialist

Actuary - Defined Benefit Pensions/Member Calculations Specialist

Location: London or Reigate (Hybrid - 50%) Contract: Permanent Hours: 35 hours

Purpose

This actuarial role is key to support the growth and development of the Defined Benefit (DB) area and primarily our member experience activities. The purpose of this role is to:

  • Assess calculation requirements
  • Provide technical support and guidance
  • Complete member options calculations using varying inputs

Additionally, this role involves:

  • Collaborating to develop and test bespoke, automated member option tools within the DB Business.
  • Contributing to other actuarial calculations, such as new business and true-up activities, to support our growth agenda.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide calculation support for standard and non-standard member option calculations that require actuarial referral.
  • Test and sign off generation of our member option automated tools for new schemes.
  • Serve as a defined benefit subject matter expert, assisting the Operations function and providing new scheme triage.
  • Develop and refine features of member option calculation tools.
  • Conduct ongoing updates for market conditions and basis changes.
  • Monitor member options basis constantly.
  • Support the development of junior staff.

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential:
    • Experience in an actuarial team within a DB Pensions consultancy, Life insurer, or equivalent.
    • Experience in the bulk annuity market or pensions consultancy.
    • Defined benefit experience.
  • Desirable:
    • Coding experience, specifically in Julia, Python, and/or VBA.
  • Qualification:
    • Suitable candidates include part/newly/nearly qualified actuaries, those not qualified but taking exams, and associates with the right level of experience.
