Actuarial Reserving Graduate – London

Role Overview
Start your career as an Actuarial Graduate in Reserving at Hastings Direct. We’re looking for a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual to join our Group Actuarial Function.
You will:
- Help estimate the cost of future claims for our Motor and Household insurance portfolios while developing strong actuarial and analytical skills.
- Support the production of monthly and quarterly reserving analyses, including:
- Maintaining claims development triangles
- Contributing to the estimation of IBNR and ultimate claims costs using actuarial techniques such as Chain Ladder and Bornhuetter-Ferguson
- Analyse and interpret trends in claims experience, working with large datasets through SQL to ensure robust and accurate outputs.
- Build and maintain reserving models and develop Python-based tools to enhance analysis and automate processes.
- Explore AI-enabled solutions and agent-based workflows to improve efficiency.
- Support capital reporting activities and develop an understanding of key capital drivers while collaborating closely with teams in Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, and Finance to deliver data-driven insights.

In this role, there will also be exposure to the Solvency II (Solvency UK) requirements within the function.
Requirements
- A numerical or actuarial degree with first-class (or Predicted First Class) Honours
- High analytical ability and attention to detail
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Clear communication skills
- Understanding of actuarial concepts
- Experience in data analysis or coding, preferably in Python and SQL
- Interest in Python for modelling and automation
- Interest in AI and advanced analytics workflows
