Description

Contract: Part Time (6 month contract, subject to review)

Location: Spondon, Derby

Hours: 24 hours per week, flexible across Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 17:00

Rate: £13.50 – £13.80 per hour

MSS (Materials Site Services) has been providing specialist materials testing services since 1995, offering expert UKAS accredited laboratory and on-site testing of concrete, bituminous materials and soils, as well as comprehensive on-site sampling services. About the Role

We are seeking an Administrative Assistant to join our team in Derby. This is a brand-new role created to support our operations in the region, initially on a temporary basis subject to review. We’re looking for a customer-focused team player with strong organisational skills and attention to detail who is committed to delivering excellent service to our clients.

The primary focus of the role will be data input and management to support the compilation of reports, which are submitted for checking. Full training will be provided. Alongside this, you will carry out a range of day-to-day office duties including answering phones, basic finance-related functions, and general staff support.

You’ll work as part of an experienced team in a friendly and professional office environment, with excellent exposure to the construction industry and materials testing sector. Candidates based locally to our Derby office are particularly encouraged to apply.


Key Responsibilities

  • Data input and management to support report compilation and submission
  • Answer telephone calls and manage client and colleague enquiries professionally
  • Provide general administrative support to ensure efficient business operations
  • Assist with basic finance-related functions including invoicing and order processing
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Support staff with day-to-day administrative tasks
  • Process documentation and assist with scheduling as required
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, colleagues and suppliers
  • Support compliance with company policies and quality standards

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

Essential Requirements:

  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (essential)
  • Professional telephone manner and strong verbal communication skills
  • Highly organised with the ability to multitask effectively and prioritise workload
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in administrative tasks
  • Customer focused with demonstrated strong customer relations skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an administrative or office coordination role
  • Experience working in construction, engineering, or technical services
  • Understanding of site operations or technical testing processes
  • Local knowledge of the Derby area
