Admiral Nurse (Bristol and South Gloucestershire) – Join Dementia UK

Are you passionate about supporting families and carers of people living with dementia? Do you possess the skills and compassion needed to empower others through this challenging journey?

We are seeking a dedicated Admiral Nurse to work in partnership with Dementia UK, providing expert specialist support to carers and families affected by dementia in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.


About the Role

As an Admiral Nurse, you will deliver specialist dementia care to families, helping carers navigate the emotional, practical, and psychological impacts of the condition. Your work will focus on improving the quality of life for both individuals living with dementia and their carers—from pre-diagnosis through to advanced stages.

You’ll provide tailored, compassionate guidance, ensuring carers feel supported, informed, and able to deliver person-centred care, even during the most difficult transitions.


Key Responsibilities

Provide specialist dementia assessments and support, including home visits Develop and implement personalised intervention plans based on the individual needs of both the person with dementia and their carer Promote relationship-centred care, recognising the psychological and social impact of dementia Empower carers to prioritise their own wellbeing while maintaining their care duties Collaborate with health and social care professionals to ensure coordinated, holistic support Drive improvements in dementia care standards through advocacy, training, and best-practice development Deliver education and training on dementia-related topics, working with colleagues, carers, and partner organisations

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:

  • Registration as a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN) or Registered General Nurse (RGN)
  • A full UK driving licence in good standing
  • A minimum of 2 years’ post-registration experience in dementia support
  • Experience working with carers in community or outreach settings
  • A strong understanding of person-centred and relationship-centred care in dementia
  • The ability to support carers through complex emotional and practical challenges

Desirable Criteria:

  • Relevant experience providing emotional and psychological support to dementia families
  • Prior involvement in multi-disciplinary teams or advocacy roles
  • Additional qualifications in dementia care or counselling

Role Details

  • Positions available: Part-time, 3 days per week (9:00am–5:00pm)
  • Location: Bristol and South Gloucestershire – local presence is beneficial due to travel requirements
  • Support method: A 60/40 split of face-to-face and remote work
  • Additional commitments: Occasional travel to UK-wide hubs for training and collaborative meetings
