Admissions Adviser
About the role: Advice and Admissions Adviser
We’re seeking someone who wants to make a real difference each day and create value from every experience, unlocking potential in both themselves and others.
As an Advice and Admissions Adviser you would be the first point of contact for our learners and visitors. Working out of each college's dedicated advice centre or covering at reception as required, you'd provide advice on the full range of courses and services offered at the college, and sometimes support and encouragement too, to overcome fears and perceived limitations. Working with our faculty colleagues you'll get learners ready to start their course with us - arranging interviews, confirming offers and liaising closely with faculty teams to convert applicants to enrolments.
You will receive the full training and support that you’d expect from Activate Learning, an organisation with a reputation that sets it apart from other providers.
This is a fixed-term maternity cover position, available until July 2027, working 25 hours per week during term time (0.57 FTE). The role is primarily based at Woodley Hill House, Eastcourt Avenue, Reading, RG6 1HH. However, you will also be required to work at Reading College for training purposes and to provide cover and support as required to meet the needs of the team.
What do you need to be a successful as an Advice and Admissions Adviser at Activate Learning?
You must have experience working a busy environment and meeting targets, as well as interacting with clients/stakeholders who require advice or guidance. This could be from experience in a previous role like customer service, pastoral care or receptionist work, so long as you're keen to help people in a fast paced environment!
Being great with people and an excellent communicator is absolutely key to being successful in this role. You’ll have the ability to talk to our learners, staff and visitors with ease, demonstrating a positive attitude and ensuring you always provide an excellent customer experience.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
