Job Title: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Adult Acute Inpatients
Banding: Band 7
Location: Royal Brompton Hospital, London
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £24.00–£32.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time
Contract Length: 3 Months
Job Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Acute Inpatient team at Royal Brompton Hospital on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled clinician with experience managing complex adult caseloads within an acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will work with patients presenting with a range of respiratory, voice, airway, and swallowing disorders, delivering specialist assessment and intervention as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role offers flexible working hours and the opportunity to work within a leading specialist hospital.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Manage a specialist adult acute inpatient caseload.
- Carry out laryngoscopy assessments and interventions.
- Assess and manage patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP).
- Undertake outpatient assessments for asthma and upper airway disorders.
- Deliver specialist voice therapy.
- Assess and manage patients with dysphagia, including Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).
- Produce Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile (MBSImP) reports where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical documentation in line with HCPC and departmental standards.

Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
- HCPC registration.
- Significant post-graduate experience working within adult acute inpatient services.
- Experience undertaking laryngoscopy, dysphagia assessment, VFSS, FEES, voice therapy, and upper airway assessments.
- MBSImP reporting competence is highly desirable.
- Dysphagia competencies at Level 2b or equivalent are desirable.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and clinical reasoning skills.
