Social Worker (Adult Mental Health) – Eating Disorder Inpatient Services
About the Role
Social Workers (Adult Mental Health) are required to deliver adult mental health social work services for the eating disorder inpatient services at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).
Key Responsibilities
The role involves:
- Working closely with the Directorate Safeguarding Lead to coordinate and deliver adult social work services for the service.
- Acting as a key member of multi-disciplinary teams, bringing professional knowledge and skills to support the provision of care, assessment, and treatment to patients with eating disorders.
- Liaising, advising, and collaborating with external and partnership agencies (both voluntary and statutory).
- Providing adult social care and mental health expertise, applying legislative frameworks to align with current legislation, local authority policies, and Trust guidance.
- Fulfilling statutory local authority social work responsibilities where relevant.

- Work alongside the Directorate Safeguarding Lead to ensure access to resources and collaboration with national-level external agencies for effective social work delivery.
- Make referrals where necessary, providing advocacy, information, and guidance for service users, carers, and partnering agencies.
- Exercise social work professional responsibilities within the multi-disciplinary inpatient team, including:
- Conducting specialist assessments for service users with complex clinical and safeguarding needs.
- Evaluating risk in cases of self-harm, self-neglect, vulnerability, harm to others, domestic abuse, adult safeguarding, and children’s safeguarding.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation, SLaM, and local authority policies in all service provision.
