About the Role

Maximus delivers health and employment services to millions of people annually across the UK, employing around 5,000 staff to drive transformational change through employability programmes, health assessments, and specialist support. This role is your chance to shape the future of 19+ learners at Birmingham sites, helping them build transferable skills, achieve qualifications, and secure sustainable employment.

As an Adult Skills Trainer, you will assess learner needs, deliver accredited/non-accredited training, and embed personal, social, and employability development across sectors such as Hospitality, Digital, Business Administration, and Logistics.


Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • . Conduct pre-course assessments (e.g., Maths, English, ESOL, digital skills, soft skills, and personal aspirations) and develop individual learning plans (ILPs) with SMART targets.
  • . Deliver tailored programmes in subjects including:
    • English, Maths & ESOL
    • Digital & soft skills
    • Hospitality, Facilities, Logistics, Health & Social Care, Business Admin, Customer Service
  • . Train, mentor, and assess learners to build confidence, work-readiness, and life skills.
  • . Monitor progress via MIS (ILR) data, track KPIs (e.g., retention, completion rates), and adapt delivery as needed.
  • . Implement safeguarding, PREVENT, equality, and health & safety policies—ensuring mandatory training completion.
  • Plan engaging, adapted lessons for diverse learners, embedding PDBA (Personal Development, Behaviour & Attitudes) and sector-relevant content.
  • . Promote job opportunities linked to learners’ ILP goals.
  • . Maintain records (hard copy & digital) securely for audit, performance review, and learner progress evidence.
  • . Contribute to policies/procedures (e.g., Self-Assessment Reports, Quality Improvement Plans).
  • Diagnose and address additional learning needs (SEND, ESOL, vulnerable adults). -**. Engage in standardisation meetings, training CPD, and feedback loops with learners/stakeholders.
  • . Work flexibly, including evenings/weekends, if required.

Musts

  • Full driving licence + willing/able to travel across Birmingham/region.
  • Adhere to Maximus policies (safeguarding, safeguarding premises, Safer Recruitment, data protection).

Qualifications & Experience

No.1 Essentials

  • . Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification (PTTLS/CTTLS or equivalent).
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing VRQ (Mandatory).
  • Level 4 Award in QA of Assessment Process/Practice (Desirable).
  • English Functional Skills Level 2 (or equivalent).

Must-Have Skills

✅ Teaching/adult learning (proven experience with funded employability programmes and complex learners). ✅ Experience in motivational strategies and 1-to-1 support. ✅ Working with unemployed towards sustainable job outcomes or further education. ✅ IT Microsoft 365 + Teams Proficient (remote/hybrid teaching). ✅ Self-managing caseloads, setting personal deadlines. ✅ Positive retention/completion stats in previous roles.
