Adult Skills Tutor – Job Description
Job Title: Adult Skills Tutor (Family Learning Specialism)
Salary: £37,280 – £39,152 per annum (S02 band) Hours: 37 per week Contract: Term-time only Location: Merrion House, Leeds
About the Role
Are you passionate about supporting adults to build confidence and develop skills for everyday life, work, and wellbeing? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
We are seeking a motivated and professional Family Learning Tutor to deliver high-quality adult and community learning programmes across Leeds. Your focus will be on engaging parents and carers alongside their children, ensuring that learning is embedded in everyday life.
We actively welcome candidates who can offer additional subject expertise, such as:
- Mathematics
- English
- Digital or ESOL (English for Spears of other Languages)
The successful candidate will:
- Plan and deliver inclusive sessions for adults and families --assess learner progress using the RARPA methodology (Recognise, Analyse, Respond, Progress)
- Develop parents’ confidence and support children’s learning
- Promote positive engagement in education

Key Responsibilities
Learning Delivery & Facilitation
- Facilitate joint learning for both adults and children, adapting teaching methods to meet diverse needs
- Plan and deliver engaging sessions that improve literacy, numeracy, communication, and employability skills
- Support families in developing confidence for educational engagement at home
Assessment & Progression
- Use RARPA methodology to monitor and assess learner progress
- Signpost families to further learning opportunities, community resources, and support services
- Prepare and deliver non-accredited courses to a high standard
Inclusivity & Wellbeing
- Foster an inclusive, welcoming environment where families feel valued
- Provide guidance on positive parenting and educational involvement
Course Development & Quality Assurance
- Develop new course content and teaching materials
- Support curriculum development and literacy/language/numeracy/digital skills improvement
- Comply with internal and external auditing, quality, and risk management procedures
Partnerships & Advice
- Participate in partnership building with employability, further learning, and wellbeing organisations
- Provide learners with appropriate information, advice, and support throughout their learning journey

Qualifications
- Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification (recognised)
- English & Maths qualifications at Level 2 (or higher)

Job Purpose
To deliver non-accredited courses up to Level 1 in classroom, digital, or blended learning environments, specialising in:
- Family learning
- ESOL
- Mathematics & English
- Digital skills
Duties & Expectations
Planning & Teaching
- Develop and deliver schemes of work, lessons, and workshops for both accredited and non-accredited courses
- Induct and assess learners, creating individual learning plans
- Apply RARPA methodology to track learner progress, assess, and record achievements
Supporting Learners
- Prepare learners for final assessments and provide guidance throughout their journey
- Use ICT in learning environments and maintain digital learning platforms knowledge

Required & Desirable Qualifications
Essential Criteria (Must be evidenced in application)
- Minimum Level 3 teaching qualification
- English & Maths qualifications at Level 2
- Proficiency in ICT for learning environments
Skills & Competences ✔ Ability to plan and deliver ** uitzerad kilometres teaching** ✔ Skills in continuous improvement and teaching evaluation ✔ Experience with learner intervention strategies ✔ Strong promotion of programmes and services ✔ Effective stakeholder relationships with all learners of the community
Knowledge Areas ◯ Knowledge of government-funded training programmes ◯ Familiarity with national tests (Entry L1-3 & Literacy/Numeracy L1-2) ◯ Safeguarding & Prevent policy understanding ◯ Knowledge of health & safety legislation, equality policies, and SEC (Essential Digital Skills) qualification
Required Experience ⚔ Delivering learning & assessing progress ⚔ Designing learning materials and courses ⚔ Supporting learners for external assessments ⚔ Continuous professional improvement & meeting targets
Desirable (But Welcomed) Qualifications & Experience
- A subject specialism or higher-level teaching qualification
- Qualified Assessor experience
