Voyage Care is looking for a new Support Worker Apprentice. You will be studying for your Adult Care Worker Level 2. You will assist with daily living activities, learn essential care skills, and contribute to creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere within our service whilst gaining a recognised qualification in health and social care.
Requirements
- Adult care worker (level 2) qualification
- Apply national standards, organisational policies and procedures, codes of conduct and ways of working that apply to own role.
- Follow national legislation, policies and guidance in adult social care settings, relating to health and safety within the scope of own role.
- Consider the human rights of individuals in adult social care settings, in line with organisational policies relating to equity, diversity and inclusion to support an open culture.
- Demonstrate a duty of candour, and duty of care acting in the best interest of individuals to ensure they do not come to harm.
- Apply a person-centred, co-produced approach when developing relationships with individuals to support their health and wellbeing.
- Assist with conducting risk assessments, which focus on positive risk taking, to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
- Apply the principles of positive and proactive care and support for those with lived experience to proactively avoid or reduce escalation, de-escalate, and manage conflict.
- Customise information, advice and guidance to individuals with or without capacity or their representative to make informed, independent choices and decisions.
- Adapt approach to care and support for individuals with lived experience to meet their current and evolving cognitive and physical needs and conditions.
- Recognise and respect how an individuals capacity determines their ability to make informed decisions about their needs.
- Identify and respond to signs and symptoms of changes in the physical and mental capacity, mental health and wellbeing of those with lived experience, and monitor, record and report changes.
- Use appropriate communication methods that are adapted to respond to the needs of individuals, stakeholders and family members in adult social care settings, including verbal, written, non-verbal and digital communication.
- Develop personal resilience and access support to maintain wellbeing of self.
- Use record keeping systems to maintain clear and accurate records of interactions with individuals, and others ensuring security of information and data.
- Apply methods of digital working and communication and new care technologies to support improvements in own work setting.
- Record learning opportunities in line with organisational policies that support lifelong learning and meet the relevant standards.
- Record, use feedback and supervision to improve own practice to identify and support the development of individual goals and career opportunities.
- Contribute and agree to the personal development plan demonstrating support required for new learning goals and reflection on actual practice.
- Monitors safe and effective administration of medicines in accordance with national and organisational policies and the limitations of own role.

Responsibilities
- Assist with daily living activities, learn essential care skills, and contribute to creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere within our service whilst gaining a recognised qualification in health and social care.
- Work alongside experienced care professionals to deliver compassionate, person-centred support to individuals with complex care needs.
- Communicate with people we support with learning disabilities using appropriate communication methods, including tact, empathy and diplomacy to foster good relationships. This may include using specialist communication methods for which the company would provide training.
- Once suitably trained, assist with the people we support, including personal care, while being appropriately supervised.
- Assist with bathing to maintain a high standard of hygiene. This may include people moving techniques, using hoists and repositioning service users as required.
- Participate in the development and implementation of people we support’s care plans to encourage people we support to take an active role in all aspects of daily living and ensure the appropriate level of individual care and support is provided.
- Participate in people we support daily outings, activities or recreational pursuits when required to assist people we support with aspects of their daily life.
- Undertake and/or assist people we support with household activities such as cooking, mealtimes, laundering and cleaning to promote a healthy environment for the service users and the promotion of independent living.
- Record and complete any appropriate documentation to ensure that per records, observations or research results are accurate and informative.
- Handle cash daily, e.g. grocery shopping, general household errands and service users’ monies to facilitate the appropriate management of service users’ finances.
- Undertake and complete the Apprenticeship Programme within an agreed timescale, including the induction criteria specified by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
- Undertake any other training relevant to the needs of the service and the people we support according to relevant legislation to professionally develop and gain skills beneficial to the service users.
- Ensure all policies and procedures applicable in the service and the company are followed to comply with regulations and good practice.
- Attend, participate and contribute to team meetings when required to ensure that all issues relating to the management of the service are fully understood, and to promote communication within the team.

- Wage: £23,150.40 a year

- Hours: TBC (May Include Evenings, Weekends & Public Holidays). 35 hours a week
- Duration: 1 year
