Job Description
Position: Advanced Clinical Pharmacist Salary: £57,528 – £64,750 per annum (NHS Band 8a) Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Contract Type: Permanent Location: St Mary’s Hosp (IOW), Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG, UK
We seek a dedicated Advanced Clinical Pharmacist to join Team IOW NHS, aligning with the Trust’s mission of “working together, improving together”. This role combines clinical leadership with operational executive responsibilities across emergency admissions and the wider pharmacy service.
Key Focus Areas:
- Enterprise Leadership: Develop and deliver high-quality clinical pharmacy services across emergency care and collaborative specialties.
- Service Development: Drive enhancements to polices, procedures, guidelines, risk assessments, and audit frameworks to support medicines safety.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Work with teams, internal partners, and external stakeholders to embed evidence-based best practice and technology (e.g., EPMA integration, automation/robotics).
- Team Leadership: Train, supervise, and mentor pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals to foster a culture of continuous learning.

Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership:
- Lead and design medicines management strategies within emergency admissions.
- Develop patient pathways andIntegrated care initiatives to enhance clinical safety and quality.
Strategy & Compliance:
- Promote culture of medicines safety: Incorporate near-miss reporting, risk mitigation, and incident learning into daily practice.
- Maintain adherence to regulatory standards, guidelines, and Trust policies. Oversee clinical governance audits and accreditation processes.
Team & Business Support:
- Provide supervision and career development for the pharmacy team in alignment with national frameworks (e.g., NPfIT, NHS Improvement).
- Participate in strategic workforce planning, budget management (IT/equipment), and critical service prioritisation.
Collaboration & Innovation:
- Advise on technological solutions (e.g., EPMA, smart dispensing) for enhanced efficiency and patient care excellence.
- Act as a resource for internal educators, training clinicians and managers across the Trust.
- Represent pharmacy interests in multi-professional forums and front-line service reviews.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential: ✔ Primary qualifications:
- Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) or equivalent.
- Pharmacist registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
- Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or comparable clinical experience.
✔ Core competencies:
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical pharmacy (telehealth, international guidelines, informatics).
- Proficiency in hospital pharmacy operations (e-prescribing, automated dispensing systems).
- Specialist clinical knowledge in an emergency or critical care community.
✔ Technical and safety focus:
- Skills in risk assessment, root cause analysis, and medicines optimisation repeat reviewing.
- Evidence of past roles influencing staff development and/or journey toward NHS targets.
