Advanced Clinical Scientist / Audiologist

Senior Clinical Scientist (Audiology) – North Wales Audiology Service

Job Overview

An exciting new mixed adult and paediatric vacancy has arisen within the North Wales Audiology Service for a registered clinical scientist. The post will provide high-quality hearing health care to the population of North Wales served by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB).

This is a flexible, three-and-a-half-day post, with:

  • Three days based with the adult audiology team
  • Two days with the paediatric audiology team

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering and supervising audiology services, with potential focus areas including:

  • Diagnostic audiology
  • Advanced rehabilitation
  • Learning disability/dementia support
  • Tinnitus management

While paediatric experience is essential, training in other specialist areas will be provided as required.

Applicants will also be responsible for:

  • Training and supervising junior clinical staff
  • Line managing junior auditorolevel professionals
  • Supporting service development and research initiatives

The role is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital, with additional travel required to peripheral sites across North Wales.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

The role involves:

  • Delivering high-quality, patient-centred audiology services across both adult and paediatric populations.
  • Carrying out advanced clinical assessments, including:
    • Diagnostic audiology (adult & paediatric)
    • Vestibular assessments
  • Training and supervising other clinical staff, including junior Clinical Scientists and audiologists.
  • Contributing to service development, ensuring best practice is maintained.
  • Participating in research and supporting evidence-based practice.
  • Line managing junior team members, fostering professional growth.

You will work within a dynamic audiology team, committed to excellence in: 🔸 Diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology 🔸 Specialised services (e.g., dementia, tinnitus, learning disabilities)


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • MSc Audiological Science (or equivalent qualified knowledge)
  • Post-MSc professional training qualification (appropriate for HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist)
  • HCP registration (Clinical Scientist – Audiology, **RCCP or AHCS status)

Desirable Criteria

  • Membership of appropriate professional special interest groups

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Extended experience as a Clinical Scientist/Audiologist (including STP training period)

Desirable Criteria

  • Leadership experience in clinical or educational settings
  • Evidence of teaching or mentoring (e.g., Previous training supervision roles)

Aptitude & Abilities

Essential Criteria

  • Proficiency in a wide range of advanced audiological procedures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including:
    • Ability to handle complex, sensitive information confidentially
  • Active involvement in research and a commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Strong teamworking skills, able to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to undertake vestibular assessment and complex diagnostic audiology
