Advanced Dosimetrist, Head of Mould Room

Job Overview

Main Duties of the Role

This role will support the modernisation of our Mould Room, implementing new equipment, processes, and training staff to enhance workflow efficiency. By doing so, we aim to:

  • Free up staff resources to prioritise patient care
  • Reduce patient wait times and improve treatment tolerance
  • Train staff rotating through the Mould Room
  • Review and optimise Skills Mix

The role reports to the Education Lead and plays a key part in improving-service delivery through continuous improvement and innovation.

Detailed Role and Responsibilities

In this key clinical and management role, you will be responsible for:

Operational Leadership

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Mould Room, ensuring a fully trained and staffed resource to cover the 5-day clinical service in collaboration with the Principal Dosimetrist in Planning.

Service Modernisation

  • Project-manage developments to modernise the Mould Room service, including preparing a Business Case to replace aging equipment.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance immobilisation device production and patient care outcomes.

Process Excellence

  • Design and implement bespoke immobilisation solutions tailored to patient needs.
  • Ensure high-quality moulds are produced consistently, supporting effective Radiotherapy treatments.

Skilling & Culture

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, compassion, and change-driving capabilities.
  • Leverage extensive Mould Room expertise to propose and develop improvements in standards, workflows, and bespoke patient solutions.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

  • A degree in Therapeutic Radiography, Clinical Technology, or another science-based subject (or equivalent experience).
  • A master’s degree in Therapeutic Radiography, Clinical Technology, or integrated scientific leadership experience.
  • State registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer or eligibility to register on the Voluntary Register for Technologists as a Radiotherapy Physics Technologist.
  • Significant knowledge and experience of Mould Room processes and skills, enhanced by:
    • Relevant postgraduate qualifications or Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
    • Attendance at specialist scientific meetings and courses.
    • In-depth practical experience within the field.
  • Broad understanding of anatomy, physiology, radiotherapy techniques, and dosimetry.
  • Management experience in team or service leadership.

Desirable Criteria

  • Additional counselling or patient support skills.
