Materials Engineer – Aerospace (Yeovil)
About the Role
This Honeywell Aerospace Yeovil Materials Engineering position supports Design and Manufacturing Engineering teams for new and existing aerospace products within the HAY portfolio. The role focuses on leveraging advanced materials knowledge and manufacturing processes to:
- Participate in designing and re-designing hardware
- Evaluate and develop alternative/obsolete materials, including qualification
- Assess supply chain performance and compliance
- Maintain documentation for materials and process requirements
The engineer will interface with both internal and external stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities

Environmental compliance lead: Act as site focal for all environmental regulations (including REACH & TSCA), identifying:
- Non-compliance with regulations
- Design changes needed to align with regulatory intent
- Justification for design changes to internal and external customers

Ensure ongoing compliance with evolving regulations for Honeywell Aerospace designs.

Collaborate in Design and Applications Engineering, Value Engineering, and Supplier Transition:
- Participate in concurrent design investigations
- Define manufacturing process approval requirements
- Conduct product testing
- Support new material qualifications for aerospace applications

- Drive specification evolution, transitioning local process specs to global Honeywell or industry standards:
- Provide technical support for high-specification components
- Perform maintenance audits to verify compliance
- Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCAP) analysis for product/process failures
- Identify cost-reduction and manufacturability improvements
Skills, Experience & Education Required

Academic qualification: Minimum Degree, HND, or HNC in:
- Materials Science
- Materials Engineering
- Chemistry (related disciplines acceptable)

Technical depth:
- Extensive knowledge of aerospace materials & processes
- Experience in process selection, applications, and specification development

Regulatory expertise: Strong grasp of REACH and similar chemical regulations.

- Roles in materials design/selection or process engineering
- Skills in:
- Writing technical documentation
- Approving drawings/specifications
- Root cause analysis for product failure
- Process troubleshooting & auditing (including special processes)
- Process control/compliance management
