Permanent Renal Pre-operative Day Care Nurse Role

About the Role
You will provide direct patient care for renal patients requiring pre-operative assessment before surgery and/or anaesthesia, in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
Key Displays of the Role
- Assess and support patients in the pre-operative phase within the renal pathway.
- Work across renal, anaesthetic, and theatre teams to ensure seamless patient transitions.
- Undertake technical aspects of care, including:
- History taking
- ECG recording and interpretation
- Blood test ordering
- Venepuncture
Additional Responsibilities
- Devise and implement evidence-based care plans.
- Contribute to the development of an innovative renal service and advanced clinical practice.
- Provide support to patients with renal transplants/access, including tunnelled catheters and AV fistulas (desirable experience).
Critical Committee & Travel
All roles are assessed for sponsorship eligibility under current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where applicable.
- Duration of Role: Permanent
- Working Hours: 36 hours (full-time) or 18 hours (part-time)
- Location: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH), Renal Service
- Working Pattern: Monday to Friday
- Salary: Pro Rata for part-time arrangements

** Responsibilities**
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for renal patients on the pre-operative pathway.
- Collaborate with nursing and multidisciplinary teams to maintain high care standards.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop tailored care plans based on evidence.
- Support patients through surgery, anaesthesia, and recovery with renal, anaesthetic, and theatre teams.
- Perform technical procedures, including ECG recording and interpretation, venepuncture, and blood test ordering.
- Contribute to service development and advanced clinical practice within renal care.
Requirements
** essential Qualifications & Experience**
- Registered Nurse (with the NMC).
- Post-registration clinical experience, particularly in renal-related nursing (desirable).
- Proficiency in ECG recording and venepuncture.
- Continuing professional development (CPD) commitment.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in renal, theatre, surgical, or anaesthetic settings.
- Experience managing renal transplants (including tunnelled catheters and AV fistulas).
Education & Development
You will receive supported clinical development within the service, with access to advanced practice courses via Glasgow Caledonian University, including:
- Clinical Assessment
- Preparing to Advance Practice
- Pre-operative Assessment Module
