Job Overview
Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and highly experienced Advanced Orthoptist to join our service as Lead Clinical Tutor.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Orthoptist passionate about clinical education and supporting the next generation of Orthoptists. You will help maintain and develop a positive, high-quality learning environment for undergraduate and MSc pre-registration students attending Moorfields for placements across 26 weeks of the year.
Working closely with the Orthoptic Education Lead and friendly multi-disciplinary team, you will support student placements, deliver teaching, provide feedback and help support clinical supervisors.
We are looking for someone who is clinically confident, approachable and organised, with prior experience as a clinical supervisor. If you are keen to combine advanced practice and leadership, as we prepare for our next chapter moving into a new purpose-built eye hospital designed to support innovation in clinical care, research and education we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will take a lead role in supporting undergraduate and postgraduate orthoptic clinical education, helping to create a positive and well-structured learning experience for students during their placements. This will include developing student timetables, liaising with university tutors and colleagues, to ensure high quality placement opportunities. The post holder will provide formative and summative feedback, helping students develop confidence, clinical skills and professional practice. A commitment to obtaining a recognised qualification will be encouraged and supported.
Alongside the education element of the role, the post holder will continue to hold a specialist orthoptic case working independently across a range of sub-speciality clinics. The role would suit a highly experienced Orthoptist with strong clinical skills who enjoys combining advanced core practice with teaching, supervision and service development, while working collaboratively with the Orthoptic Education Lead and wider team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
