Advanced OT Practitioner – Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) and Adult Services

Are you ready to take the lead in shaping and developing Occupational Therapy services that empower people to achieve greater independence and meaningful recovery? Join Potters Bar Clinic as an Advanced OT Practitioner and play a pivotal role in leading Occupational Therapy provision across our Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) and Adult Services.

In this rewarding leadership role, you will:

  • Manage and develop the Occupational Therapy Service, using evidence-based and person-centred approaches
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions to help service users build confidence, develop essential life skills, and achieve greater independence
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure high-quality therapeutic support promoting recovery, rehabilitation, and positive outcomes
  • Lead the delivery of individual and group interventions and oversee comprehensive assessments and treatment plans
  • Ensure Occupational Therapy services are responsive to evolving service user needs
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and students
  • Foster a culture of excellence and continuous development

Working under the strategic direction of the Therapy Lead, you will:

  • Contribute to ongoing development of therapy services
  • Shape innovative programs supporting living skills, education, leisure, and rehabilitation
  • Play a key role in care coordination for young people within the service
  • Maintain strong relationships with service users, families, carers, and external stakeholders

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
  • Full Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) membership
  • Active HCPC registration
  • At least 3 years of experience, including 1 year of specialised experience in:
    • CAMHS service or Mental Health/PD services
  • Competence in assessing patients using psychometric and risk assessment tools
  • Ability to engage patients in developing insight and coping skills for complex needs (clinical and sensory-based)
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to pitch complex information effectively
  • Up-to-date awareness of legislation and professional standards (RCOT/HCPC Code of Conduct)
  • Ability to proactively resolve problems and challenges in a constructive manner
  • Experience in supervising and line-managing staff
  • Professional adherence to RCOT/HCPC conduct and boundaries
