Clinical Pharmacist (Integrated Pharmacy Team) – Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board
Location: Base at Glan Clwyd Hospital, North Wales Employment Type: Full-time (Contract terms to be discussed)
About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and passionate pharmacist with a keen interest in clinical services to join our expanding integrated pharmacy team in North Wales. This is a unique, patient-focused role where you will:
- Work alongside ward-based clinical pharmacy teams and the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
- Directly influence patient care through medication decisions and treatment choices
- Contribute to guideline and protocol development across Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB)
- Collaborate in specialist divisions, including Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and General Medicine
Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care:
- Provide direct clinical input to patients across the Central Integrated Healthcare Community (Central IHC)
- Advise on medication safety and optimisation, supporting ward-based teams
- Lead and mentor junior pharmacists and technicians
- Advise on treatment options in collaboration with prescribing staff

Service Development & Leadership:
- Drive improvements in medication safety and patient flow
- Develop and implement clinical guidelines, protocols, and procedures
- Support interprofessional working with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals
- Take accountability and lead in service expansion initiatives

Multidisciplinary & Team Collaboration:
- Engage with senior clinical staff and colleagues across primary, community, and secondary care
- Act as a clinical leader and resource for Pharmacy technicians and hospital pharmacists
- Represent the Pharmacy team in multidisciplinary planning sessions

Organisational Commitment:
- Contribute to on-call pharmacy services and public holiday coverage as required

Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Degree: MPharm or equivalent pharmaceutical qualification
- Registration: Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Postgraduate Qualifications/Experience:
- MSc or Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or
- Comparable experience (e.g., longitudinal clinical specialisation)
- Prescribing: Non-medical prescribing qualification (or working towards)
- Pharmacy Sector Experience:
- Proven experience working in the NHS sector (managed care) or community pharmacy
- Evidence of successful implementation of clinical improvements
Desirable Criteria
- Clinical Specialism: Previous experience in critical care, emergency medicine, or surgical pharmacy
- Leadership & Management: Experience in team management, line management, or innovative pharmacy practice
Key Aptitudes & Skills
Essential
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills (adapted to multidisciplinary teams)
- IT Competence: Proficient in pharmacy-related IT systems
- Change Agility: Experience in initiat[ing] or oversee[ing] process improvements
- Organisational Capacity: Ability to prioritise, delegate, and meet deadlines
- Analytical: Skilled at reviewing protocols and enhancing procedural standards
