We are looking for a creative, innovative and motivated advanced practitioner to support the delivery of Occupational Therapy within Critical Care, based at the Grange University Hospital.

Extensive clinical experience of rehabilitation, inpatient services, neurology or major trauma is essential. You will be expected to work as an integral part of the critical care team and as part of the wider Occupational Therapy team across ABUHB, to deliver high quality, evidence‑based occupational therapy intervention with individuals who have experienced a significant event requiring critical care provision.

The successful post holder will be responsible for the delivery of advanced clinical interventions along with contributing to the development of the role within critical care, utilising evidence‑based practice, taking an active role in undertaking or contributing to service/clinical evaluations, audit and research. The post holder will also support the education of students and junior members of staff.

• Utilise advanced knowledge and skills from a varied clinical background, including in a neurological setting, to assess, treat and manage a varied caseload on a busy critical care unit.
• Identify and prioritise the people who will be most likely to benefit from occupational therapy intervention.
• Independent, confident decision‑making and clinical reasoning with a complex and varied caseload.
• Support seamless transition of occupational therapy care on step‑down from the critical care unit.
• Plan discharges home directly from critical care.
• Work jointly with the multi‑disciplinary team on the unit to optimise the impact of occupational therapy.
• Identify and implement changes to support the development of this emerging role and service.
• Utilise and implement the growing evidence base for occupational therapy practice within critical care, contributing to this where possible.

Qualifications And Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Occupational Therapy degree or diploma
• HCPC registration
• Master’s level study (CQFW level 7) – (@20/30credits each): module or equivalent from
  • Leadership
  • Change management.
  • Occupational Therapy practice
  • Practice modules linked to clinical area
  • Accredited practice placement educator

Desirable criteria

• Member of relevant RCOT Specialist Section
• Certificate in Leadership and/or Management

Experience

Essential criteria

• Extensive experience of working in physical health settings, inclusive of critical care, major trauma, neurology, in-patient settings
• Significant experience working at senior Occupational Therapy level
• Significant experience of supervising less experienced Occupational Therapists
• Involvement in innovative working practices
• Contributing to development of local clinical guidelines

Desirable criteria

• Experience of research and/or audit
• Training in providing clinical supervision

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria

• Ability to assess, plan and implement highly specialised interventions in related clinical field
• The capacity to apply a broad range of occupational therapy interventions using a whole-person, person centred approach to practice
• Ability to use highly specialist clinical skills to interpret complex assessments for second opinion
• Negotiation and problem-solving skills utilised within area of practice and wider MDT teams

Desirable criteria

• Application of national initiatives within an Occupational Therapy service
• Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards
