Main duties of the job
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Advanced Practitioner with a specialist interest in Cardiology to join our established Cardiology Advanced Practice ward team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and compassionate practitioner to work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, providing expert, patient-centred care for patients with acute and complex cardiology conditions. The successful candidate will bring advanced clinical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to service development, supporting the delivery of high-quality care in line with local and national standards.
As a qualified Advanced Practitioner, you will practise autonomously within your scope of practice, demonstrating the capabilities set out within the NHS England Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Practice (2025). You will independently assess, investigate, diagnose, manage and evaluate patients with acute cardiology presentations, while working closely with consultants, nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective and seamless care throughout the patient journey.
The Cardiology Advanced Practice ward team provides a seven-day service, operating between 07:30 and 20:30, working alongside the medical team to support cardiology inpatients throughout their hospital stay.

What You'll Do
As An Advanced Practitioner, You Will Demonstrate Expertise Across The Four Pillars Of Advanced Practice Set Out Within The NHS England Multi-professional Framework For Advanced Practice (2025)
Clinical Practice
- Practise autonomously as an Advanced Practitioner within the cardiology service.
- Undertake comprehensive patient assessments, formulate differential diagnoses and develop management plans for patients with acute and complex cardiology presentations.
- Request, interpret and act upon relevant investigations to support clinical decision-making.
- Deliver safe, effective and evidence-based care within agreed clinical pathways, governance frameworks and professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues to optimise patient outcomes and experience.
Leadership and Management
- Provide professional and clinical leadership within the cardiology service.
- Support service development, transformation and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, pathways and clinical standards.
- Act as a role model, promoting excellence in advanced practice and supporting a positive learning culture.
Education
- Support the education, supervision and development of colleagues, students and trainee advanced practitioners.
- Facilitate learning opportunities within the clinical environment.
- Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to workforce development across the service.
Research
- Critically evaluate and apply research evidence to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes.
- Participate in audit, service evaluation and research activities.
- Support innovation and contribute to the development of evidence-based cardiology care.
As a senior clinician within the department, you will work across professional, departmental and organisational boundaries to support integrated, patient-centred care and contribute to the ongoing development of advanced practice within the Trust.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable and experienced Advanced Practitioner with excellent clinical, communication and leadership skills.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Able To Demonstrate
- A recognised MSc in Advanced Practice (or equivalent qualification meeting NHS England Advanced Practice requirements).
- Evidence of achievement of the advanced practice capabilities and professional standards set out within the NHS England Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Practice.
- An established advanced practice portfolio demonstrating capability across all four pillars of advanced practice.
- Significant post-registration clinical experience, ideally within Cardiology, acute medicine, critical care or a related specialty.
- Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning and decision-making skills.
- Evidence of service improvement, leadership and quality improvement activity.
- Experience Of Supporting Education, Supervision And Development Of Others.
- A commitment to research, evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
- Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced and evolving healthcare environment.

Person specification
Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential criteria
- Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC / HCPC register
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice –full master (180 credits) Or equivalency pathway –the portfolio route –recognition by HEE centre of Advanced practice, via the supported portfolio route. Including NMP where professional registration permits. Or have formally credentialed on a nationally recognised specialty specific Advanced Clinical Practice programme for example FICM or RCEM EM ACP
- Speciality specific post registration qualification or training
- Provide evidence of Leading learning in practice
- Provide evidence of supporting colleagues to promote learning in practice providing an excellent learning environment for all
- Provide evidence of Supporting /managing and supervision a range of learnings in practice
- Leadership and Management qualification
- Completion of IR(ME)R Training
- Extensive post registration experience in a relevant speciality
- Experience of Service Development
Desirable criteria
- Act in the role of Practice Assessor or supporting the progression of learners / supporting challenges as needed
- ALS instructor
- EPLS/PALS provider
