Youth Worker

About the Role

Located at the Knockbreda Health and Wellbeing Centre within the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (HSCT):

We are looking for a dedicated Youth Worker (Band 7) to join our community support team.

Role Purpose

The Youth Worker will provide essential support and interventions to young people aged between 13-25, working in a welcoming, inclusive environment to promote health and wellbeing, prevent poor health and antisocial behaviours, and provide guidance on accessing appropriate support services.

You will work versatile roles within our hubs/outlets, taking responsibility for health promotion, group work, and delivering targeted interventions within local communities.

Core Responsibilities

  • Youth Engagement & Support

    • Develop and implement youth-focused programmes and activities
    • Provide advice, guidance, and signposting to young people and their families
    • Work as part of multidisciplinary teams to support referrals and service engagement
  • Health Promotion & Education

    • Promote the understanding and adoption of healthy lifestyle behaviours
    • Deliver health-related interventions (e.g., drug & alcohol awareness, mental health resources)
    • Collaborate with local partners on health initiatives

    • Contribute to the growth and sustainability of positive community involvement
    • Attend community events and monitor youth needs

Qualifications & Competencies

Essential:

  • Minimum NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Youth Work (or equivalent),
  • Experience working in a similar role, preferably within a local government or third sector context
  • Knowledge of local health and wellbeing services
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, within agreed working policies

Desirable/Preferred:

  • Current NHS / NISBT anti-social/indictable behaviour (ASB/IDB) clearance
  • Further education (e.g., diploma or additional youth work qualifications)
  • Experience with vulnerable/ disadvantaged persons

  • Strong communication & negotiation skills
  • Confidence working with diverse cultural groups
  • Skilled in resolving personal health concerns and social challenges
  • Ability to advocate for young people’s needs

Working Conditions & Pay Scale

Location: Knockbreda Health and Wellbeing Centre (Belfast HSCT)

Contract Type: Permanent Salary Band: £47,810 - £54,710 (Band 7) Grade: YW
