Advanced Social Work Practitioner
Advanced Social Work Practitioner (Learning Disability and/or Autism Programme)
£44,075 - £49,282 per annum | Permanent | Part-Time (18.5 hours/week) | Hybrid | Welbeck House, Ollerton
About the Role
The team specialises in supporting individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism who require bespoke community placements after long-term hospital stays, often under the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA)—including those on forensic sections (MHA 37/41) under the Ministry of Justice. The role also involves preventing hospital admissions, supporting placements during breakdowns, and working closely with commissioners, health colleagues, and Integrated Care Boards (ICB).
Key Responsibilities
Supervised by senior team members, you will:
- Work intently in a supportive yet challenging environment collaborative with external agencies, requiring independence and strong leadership.
- Provide 360° oversight for junior social workers in supervision capacities.
- Apply key legislation including:
- Care Act 2014
- Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Mental Health Act 1983
- Operate within strengths-based practice principles, promoting independence and wellbeing, while safely managing risks in complex cases.
- Foster community-based interventions creatively, including preventing or mitigating hospitalisations.
Core Duties
- Intervention & Prevention: Design, implement, and evaluate bespoke care plans for discharge/prevention cases.
- Supervision & Training: Offer structured supervision, mentoring, and mentorship to junior staff to bolster professional practice.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Partner amicably with health professionals, educational stakeholders, justice providers, and integration specialists.
- Record & Reporting: Maintain meticulous case records, progress reports, and statutory compliance documentation.

Requirements
Qualifications & Criteria
✅ Must be a Qualified Social Worker ✅ Practice Educator/BIM/AMHP designation strongly preferred ✅ Current registration with Social Work England ✅ Clean DBS disclosure (required for appointment)
Professional Standards
- Outstanding knowledge of the learning disability/autism field and Mental Health Act 1983.
- Strong grasp of care management frameworks, specifically strengths-based and risk-assessed safeguarding practices.
- Extensive experience working in complex settings, including forensic environments.
- Leadership ability, with a proven track record in mentoring/providing supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving, negotiation and communication skills.

- Licence to drive (taxi vouchers available if disabilities prevent this).
- Work identifiable in destination areas via priors or an agreed hybrid policy.
