The Service and Team

Under the leadership and management of a Team Manager or Principal Social Worker, qualified and registered experienced Social Workers provide a statutory social work service to help and protect children, young people and support their families/carers.

The Role

Experienced social workers are more autonomous in their role. They demonstrate expert and effective practice in complex situations, assessing and managing higher levels of risk, striking a balance between support and control, liaising with a wide range of professionals, including more senior levels.

  • They develop an excellent understanding of the child’s lived experience and are able to convey their views and feelings through high quality practice skills in assessment, planning, intervention and review.
  • They use evidence-based practice to improve the child’s welfare and safety, leading to improved outcomes.
  • They manage complex caseloads, and offer expert opinion within the organisation and to others.
  • They chair a range of meetings, offer expert support to case conferences, and produce high quality assessments and reports for a range of functions.
  • They inform, guide and model good practice, setting expectations for others and being to contribute to the public face of the organisation and / or profession.
  • They start to take responsibility and be accountable for the practice of others, mentoring newly qualified social workers, and supervising the work of junior staff.
  • They undertake capacity-building with individuals, families, communities, user groups and voluntary organisations, and contribute their views on service provision to commissioners.
  • They work collaboratively and positively with other professionals and partner agencies in order to provide a seamless and coherent service along the continuum of need set out in the Integrated Service model.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

Working Pattern:

This is a 22.2 hour a week permanent position.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
