At Avalon Group, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live a life full of choice, independence and possibility. We’re looking for an experienced and passionate Advanced Support Worker to join our team in York and play a key role in delivering exceptional, person-centred support.
This is more than a support role. As an Advanced Support Worker, you’ll be a practice leader within the service, helping to develop and inspire colleagues while continuing to provide outstanding hands-on support to people with learning disabilities, autism and complex health needs.

What You’ll Be Doing
As an Advanced Support Worker, you’ll:
- Deliver high-quality, person-centred support that promotes independence, dignity and choice.
- Support people with learning disabilities, autism, physical disabilities and complex health needs.
- Lead by example, coaching and mentoring colleagues to build confidence and develop excellent practice.
- Support new team members through induction and on-the-job coaching.
- Carry out delegated healthcare tasks (following training and competency assessment), including medication administration and other clinical interventions relevant to the service.
- Work alongside health professionals, families and other agencies to ensure people receive the best possible support.
- Complete quality audits, observations of practice and competency assessments to help maintain high standards.
- Support the Service Manager with care planning, documentation and service improvement.
- Champion safeguarding, positive risk-taking and person-centred approaches at all times.

About You
You’ll be an experienced care professional who is passionate about supporting others and developing people around you.
You’ll Ideally Have
- A Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) or be willing to achieve this.
- At least two years’ experience supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.
- Experience supporting people with complex health needs.
- Experience administering medication and following healthcare plans.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Confidence using digital care recording systems.
- A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to lead through encouragement and example.
Experience mentoring colleagues, completing competency assessments or supporting quality improvement activities would be an advantage.
