Advanced Assembly Technician

Location: Coventry (Workshop-Based) Job Type: Permanent Working Hours: 36 hours per week (Fully Flexible Working Week) Salary: Up to £35,000

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Advanced Assembly Technician to join our workshop team at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). In this role, you will be responsible for the precision assembly of complex, high-value components and systems, supporting the delivery of cutting-edge manufacturing projects.

You will play a key part in developing innovative technologies by applying advanced assembly techniques in a collaborative and technically challenging environment.

Key Responsibilities

Precision Assembly

  • Perform high-precision assembly of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
  • Interpret and follow detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Ensure all work meets strict quality and performance standards

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate advanced assembly tools and specialised equipment
  • Conduct routine maintenance, calibration, and checks to ensure optimal performance

Quality Assurance & Problem Solving

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve assembly issues
  • Implement corrective actions to maintain product integrity and quality
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives

Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers, designers, and fellow technicians
  • Contribute to solving complex technical challenges and improving assembly processes
  • Provide feedback on designs to enhance manufacturability

Documentation & Process Control

  • Maintain accurate records of assembly processes and testing outcomes
  • Update documentation and work instructions in line with process improvements

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere to all health and safety standards and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices

Training & Development

  • Mentor junior technicians and apprentices
  • Support knowledge sharing and team capability development
  • Stay up to date with new technologies and assembly methods

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in an advanced or precision assembly role
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions
  • Experience working with electrical and/or electronic components
  • Manual machining capability
  • Strong hands-on experience with assembly tools and equipment
  • Excellence in problem-solving with high attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies
  • Relevant certifications in advanced assembly or related disciplines
