Advanced Technician - Materials

Location: Workshop Job Type: Permanent Working Hours: 36 hours per week (fully flexible working week) Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per annum Benefits:

About the Role

This role sits within the Materials Team, primarily supporting the Netshape Manufacturing section at the MTC workshop. The successful candidate will collaborate across the team, using diverse equipment to assist research and support MTC projects, as well as external customers.

The role requires autonomy, commitment to organizational values, and the ability to lead projects within safety-conscious and high-performance environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Support & Work Mentality

    • Sets a positive example of MTC "RIGHT WAY" principles.
    • Promotes a proactive, safety-conscious, and collaborative work culture.
  • Safety & Compliance

    • Ensures own and others’ health & safety standards.
    • Challenges unsafe practices and engages with the Health & Safety (H&S) team.
    • Creates safety procedures (SSOWs) and documents for relevant workspace areas.
    • Actively reports Good Spots and supports process safety improvements.
  • Supervision & Independence

    • Works competently on medium- to high-risk projects—both independently and as part of a team.
    • Manages workload with minimal supervision.

Person Specification: Essential Skills & Experience

  • Welding knowledge/technique
  • Strong assembly & manual handling skills
  • Familiarity with vacuum systems

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Powder handling capabilities
  • Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) expertise
  • Heat treatment experience
