Adviser (Sugar Beet)

Job Title: Adviser (Sugar Beet) Salary: c.£40,000 (dependant on skills and experience) Location: Stoneleigh, Warwickshire Working Hours: 35 hours per week Contract Type: Permanent

Do you enjoy making the case for innovative policy developments and working with industry partners to improve the livelihoods of the 2,000 UK beet growers? We are looking for a policy adviser to lead much of the public policy, public affairs and media engagement in the sugar beet sector. You’ll be the go-to on all things policy related and how these impact sugar beet growers. You will have the chance to work in a unique, domestic agricultural sector that supplies over half the sugar consumed in the UK each year. Working closely with sugar beet growers, our industry’s research body (British Beet Research Organisation) and the processor (British Sugar plc) this role makes a real difference. If you think you can make the case for the sugar beet sector in areas such as sustainability, farm assurance, plant health, better regulation, gene editing and health and safety, then apply and tell us why.

What you’ll bring: To be successful in this role you will have a strong intellect and eye for detail and be a skilled communicator and influencer, able to tailor complex messages and advocate effectively to a wide range of stakeholders. Educated to degree level in a related discipline, you will be able to distil detailed policy proposals into clear messages for growers, and turn wide-ranging feedback from growers into practical changes that can be made by policymakers. You will be tenacious but diplomatic and enjoy rising to the many challenges facing the UK’s beet sugar industry. This is a busy, multi-faceted role so you will need to be efficient and well organised. You will be able to act independently whilst also enjoying and adding positively to a great team.
