Job Description: Strategic Procurement Team – London (Hybrid)

About the Role

We’re the leading provider of strategic and technical procurement advisory services in the UK and Ireland, known for excellence, innovation, and client relationships. We design bespoke procurement strategies that align with project goals and objectives.

Your role: Contribute to scaling our services and driving continuous improvement across the APAC market as a strategic procurement subject matter expert. Step into a dynamic, people-centric business where collaboration, creativity, and shared ambition create real impact.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Leadership in procurement projects/programmes: As the subject matter expert, deliver sector-leading competitive procurement services aligned with strategic and commercial objectives.
  • Client collaboration: Serve as a trusted advisor—understanding client drivers and project success factors, then co-designing optimal delivery models, contract strategies, commercial models, and routes to market.
  • Market engagement and tender management:
    • Lead competitive procurement processes—shortlisting suppliers, crafting tender documentation, managing submissions, evaluating responses, and negotiating contracts.
    • Apply market intelligence to identify the right partners.
  • Commercial expertise: Provide procurement advice on category management, performance monitoring, and commercial frameworks.
  • Client winning and service development:
    • Support bids, contributing to proposal documentation to attract new opportunities.
    • Help refine AECOM’s strategic procurement services based on market, client, and operational insights.
  • Internal collaboration: Partner with colleagues across disciplines to achieve high-impact, multi-disciplinary solutions for clients while personally developing expertise.
  • Innovation: Challenge the status quo in procurement practices, sharing innovations within the team and evolving the standards of the field.

Requirements

Essentials

  • Five years post-qualification experience leading procurement of complex construction and infrastructure projects.
  • End-to-end procurement lifecycle management, from sourcing strategy to contract execution and performance monitoring.
  • Project/programme leadership: Track record managing multiple projects concurrently, including client-facing accountability.
  • Soft skills focus: Strong communication, influence, and expertise-building abilities—establishing your credibility as a trusted procurement partner to clients.

Technical knowledge

  • Expertise in:
    • Strategic sourcing and category management
    • Contract negotiations
    • Performance management frameworks

(Note: surgically focused for deep experience in the above essential areas—give minor weight to optional areas below should they factor into overall suitability.)

Desirable (Plus Points)

  • Accreditation efforts or achievement in MCIPS or MRICS.
  • Awareness of procuring under UK/EU public sector regulations (e.g., the Procurement Act 2023).
  • Familiarity with familiar contract forms such as NEC, JCT, FIDIC.
