AFM Applications Scientist – Semiconductor Metrology

£48,000 – £55,000 + EMI Share Options + Private Healthcare + Pension

Are you an AFM specialist who enjoys solving complex measurement challenges and pushing technology beyond its current limits?

We're looking for an AFM Applications Scientist to help develop and demonstrate the capabilities of our industry-leading Rapid Probe Microscope (RPM) technology. Working at the forefront of semiconductor metrology, you'll play a key role in developing new measurement techniques, improving system performance and supporting the next generation of semiconductor manufacturing.

This is a rare opportunity to combine scientific curiosity, applications development and advanced instrumentation within a highly collaborative team of scientists and engineers.

If you're passionate about Atomic Force Microscopy and want to work on technology that genuinely advances semiconductor innovation, we'd love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing

  • Developing innovative AFM measurement techniques for advanced semiconductor applications
  • Designing and executing experiments to demonstrate new product capabilities
  • Improving data acquisition, measurement performance and system accuracy
  • Analysing measurement data and identifying opportunities for system optimisation
  • Collaborating with software, hardware and systems engineering teams to enhance product capabilities
  • Supporting product development through hands-on experimentation and technical investigation
  • Acting as a subject matter expert on AFM applications and nanoscale measurement techniques
  • Helping translate customer challenges into practical technical solutions
  • Contributing to the development of future product capabilities and application workflows
  • Supporting customer demonstrations and technical evaluations when required

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
