Job Description AFTERCAST OPERATIVE SOUTH QUEENSFERRY £30,960 + £3,440.64 SHIFT ALLOWANCE 2 SHIFT PATTERN: Morning: Monday to Thursday, 05:30 - 14:45 Afternoon: Monday to Thursday, 14:30 - 23:45 Progress Rail Services UK is seeking a dedicated Aftercast Operative to play a key role in maintaining the safe, efficient flow of castings through our department. This hands‑on role involves precision grinding for extended periods; using handheld grinders for up to five hours per day, working to exact tolerances and verifying measurements with calibrated gauges. You’ll be equipped with full protective gear, including air fed helmets and flame‑retardant overalls, and supported in developing your skills through cross‑training and multiskilling opportunities. THE ROLE: As an Aftercast Operative you will be required to: Ensure that you work in a safe manner and adhere to all risk assessments and method statements associated with the relevant tasks. Facilitate the progress of casting through the department using the skills that you have been trained in e.g. Dressing, Welding, inspection, Knock off, Cutting, and Heat treatment. Help the team achieve the desired targets each week. Inspection of Raw and Finished castings using gauges and check sheets. Cutting castings using arc air torches. These will be done through the manual handling of heavy equipment throughout the working day. Self-inspect castings using Gauges and drawings supplied prior to releasing castings to the inspection department. Operate in accordance with the company Quality Assurance System. Ensure that all paperwork / route cards are completed in line with the quality procedures. Work within Health, Safety & Environmental procedures. Creates a “Clean-as-you-go” policy and maintains safe storage of castings in the department. Ensure plant and equipment is maintained safely and fit for purpose, reporting and resolving defects. Willingness to be trained in other production areas. Any other duties deemed reasonable by the business.
