AI Automation Engineer – Python, GenAI & UiPath
A leading UK bank is seeking an AI Automation Engineer to design, develop and deliver enterprise automation and Artificial Intelligence solutions using Python, Generative AI, Large Language Models, JupyterHub and UiPath.
You will join a multi-disciplinary Efficiency and Automation team responsible for streamlining business processes, reducing administrative burden and improving operational efficiency across the organisation.
The team uses Python development, Generative AI, intelligent automation, workflow orchestration, conversational AI and agentic technologies to build practical, secure and scalable solutions that deliver measurable improvements for colleagues and customers.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on developer with strong Python skills and practical experience integrating GenAI and Large Language Models into enterprise applications, business processes and automation workflows.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end development lifecycle of AI and automation solutions, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing support
- Design, develop and maintain scalable enterprise automation solutions using Python, UiPath and other appropriate technologies
- Integrate Generative AI and Large Language Models into business processes, internal applications and workflow automation solutions
- Develop solutions using Retrieval-Augmented Generation, prompt engineering, semantic search, embeddings and vector databases
- Build AI-powered chatbots, virtual assistants, digital assistants and conversational AI interfaces
- Design agentic AI and agentic automation solutions using AI agents, workflow orchestration, decision logic and human-in-the-loop controls
- Develop Python services, applications and integrations that support automation and AI-enabled processes
- Integrate internal and external systems using REST APIs, JSON, authentication methods and enterprise services
- Build dynamic forms, workflow applications and intelligent process automation solutions
- Apply strong software engineering practices across coding, testing, version control, peer review, exception handling and deployment
- Ensure solutions meet appropriate standards for security, resilience, scalability, governance and operational support
- Participate in technical design sessions, architecture discussions, code reviews and pair programming
- Contribute to backlog refinement, sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives
- Support, maintain and continuously improve existing automation, AI and conversational solutions
- Identify opportunities to use Python, GenAI, UiPath and workflow orchestration to improve operational efficiency and customer outcomes
- Provide technical guidance, support and training to end users
- Stay current with developments across Generative AI, Large Language Models, agentic AI, RPA and intelligent automation

Essential experience
- Strong commercial development experience using Python
- Experience designing and delivering enterprise automation or AI-enabled software solutions
- Practical experience integrating Generative AI or Large Language Models into applications, workflows or business processes
- Experience working with prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation or other LLM application patterns
- Strong experience integrating systems through REST APIs, JSON and authentication frameworks
- Experience developing secure, scalable and maintainable software solutions
- Experience with workflow automation, process automation or intelligent automation platforms
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, solution architecture and development best practice
- Experience with testing, source control, deployment and production support
- Experience working within Agile or Lean-Agile development environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills

- UiPath Studio, UiPath Orchestrator, queues, assets and enterprise RPA delivery
- Agentic AI, AI agents or multi-agent workflow orchestration
- AI-powered chatbots, virtual assistants or conversational AI
- Vector databases, embeddings, semantic search and enterprise search platforms
- LangChain, Semantic Kernel, LlamaIndex or similar AI orchestration frameworks
- Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini or equivalent enterprise AI platforms
- C#,.NET, SQL or JavaScript
- Dynamic forms and workflow application development
- Human-in-the-loop automation and decision workflows
- Banking, financial services or another highly regulated environment
- Relevant Python, AI, automation, UiPath or cloud certifications

The organisation is expanding its use of Python, Generative AI, intelligent automation and agentic technologies to improve operational efficiency, create additional capacity and enhance customer outcomes.
This role will play a key part in delivering practical AI and automation solutions that support the Bank’s wider transformation strategy.
